It is a beautiful piece and I love to hear the harpsichord being played, however, I much prefer the production quality of the guitar version.

it seems by an informal count so far, that not many people seem to like the harpsichord version. maybe because it is less visceral than the guitar version?

I really like both versions in different ways. The guitar version is more soothing and cathartic while harpsichord version is more intriguing.

I would describe the harpsichord version as being a little more detached and uncanny, like the emotion is not quite fully human. Or maybe I've just come to associate harpsichord music with things old/archaic, too old to seem real anymore, and that invokes the haunting/enchanting feeling.

another way of putting it, is that the guitar version is more heart while the harpsichord version is more head.

^^^
glad ya liked it :)
if ya really want to hear an evocatively cosmic version of it, find an astroscopes cd-rom [and an old computer capable of running windows 9x OS programs] and give it a listen.

I don't know if I'd that's the first thing that comes to mind. Both have a strong emotional quality. The harpsichord version is more haunting and intriguing along with the melancholy. The guitar version is more down to earth.
