Anyone else get bothered every time the word 'your' is used when it's really obvious that 'you are' is what belongs there.
I just don't get it. 'Your' is not some weird verb/noun combination thing. It's a possessive noun. As in, if it is yours, then it belongs to you.
If you said, 'your the greatest man alive,' then I will ponder for a second what my 'the greatest man alive' is. (Not really, but maybe you can see my point.)
Yeah, I know you meant 'you're' as an abbreviation for 'you are,' but that's not even pronounced the same as 'your.'
'Your' should be pronounced 'yor' as in 'for.'
'You're' should be pronounced 'yooer' as in 'viewer.'
Phew, glad to get that off my chest.
EDIT: Yes, I did that to the title on purpose, so as to get people who noticed the error bothered.
your post has at least five punctuation errors, two grammatical errors, one clause error, and two colloquiallisms. there may be more mistakes, but i can't be arsed to track them down. if YOUR going to criticise other people's grammar, i suggest you work on your own first.
in my dialect, we pronounce
you're and
your in exactly the same way.
EDIT: i forgot to mention that
tho is an approved variant of
though, but it is informal.
Hey, yeah I've gotten terrible at grammar after I started to hate English classes... Mostly what bothers me is when people use the wrong words. It's like... We use these words because we know what they mean. It just further strengthens my feelings of enmity towards the social hive. Everyone seems to do things without ever questioning why... Just living a mechanical and meaningless existence. The purpose of which is to simply continue existing. Using words without truly knowing what they mean is one example of just doing what everyone else is doing. Or just doing things without a true meaning... Or something. It's hard for me to verbalize my feelings on this matter.
I do not consider the distinction between 'your' and 'you are' to be a spelling error, because those are completely different words. That'd be like saying 'cat' is a misspelling of 'dog.' I don't get bothered by spelling errors that much, because people are only human, and if they don't know the tricks/patterns to spelling, then spelling all the words properly is a matter of memorizing every single word.
Then again, I'm not an expert, and I make plenty of these mistakes too. So, I'm just a hypocrite, but I've never disputed that.
Hm. I missed a question mark in my original post, didn't I?
EDIT: I realized from the start that my pronunciation of the words was not necessarily correct. I was just being pedantic. I tend to be like that.
Also, nice videos. I particularly like the one about language by Stephen Fry. That offered an interesting perspective that I hadn't thought of before. Nice feeling after watching it.
