When did "fashion" become a necessity?

Ok,
1) I blame "Barbie" for the fashion thing (for women anyway)
2) I look "fashionable" when I go out because I like to...It's like dress-up for me.
3) At home, I look "comfortable". Who wants to keep house in their nicest clothes.
4) my favorite clothes, however, are by far, my riding clothes.
I'm kind of messy at home so I only wear them to riding lessons.

To the OP, Try this site. I'm in "love" with it. The stuff here can be pricey, but you really get a feel for the whole fashion era here. BTW I'm loving the '30s and '40s stuff mostly. And the hats...

That's pretty much what I wear as well. With some car shirts and LGBT shirts thrown in for good measure.

I love my jeans.

My mom cares about fashion and tries to make me look at fashionable clothes when I'm shopping with her. I like some of those clothes and it annoys her that I usually wear other things

I've just always worn whatever was comfiest.

I don't hate you....I'd just recommend that NO PERSON do that.

Ah sorry, I thought I accidently hit a nerve of you yesterday with my "narcissistic and foolish reply", that's why I was scared of you hating me, some people do hate me up here, sadly enough...

I am meant to be fashionable?

My boyfriend encouraged me to get some dresses so I did. I much prefer my mens clothes. It is more me. Yesterday I wore short shorts, a yoshie tshirt, shirt underneath with rolled up sleeves. Knee high pink and black knee high socks and pink converse.

Fashion is simply a way for the makers of clothes to have you buy new garments before your old garments are worn out. It is also a conspiracy to have everyone wear the same colour for months at a time (I think I read that in the National Post.)

I don't think it is a necisity. Everyone should wear what they love to wear.

But i think it's a shame how many women these days when they get older or get a family, stop caring for themselves and their looks. Only walk around in sweatpants and baggy shirts. I think taking care of yourself and loving yourself is important, that you should always put yourself first.
