Things from "your" culture you hate.

Hate this. When people's only exposure to Americans is our media, can't really blame them for thinking poorly of us.

Modest Mouse - The View
1.) Tipping- I'm cheap but it's pretty rude to give someone a low tip.
2.) Politicains- they lie
3.) Lawyers- they make facts suit a theory, I don't like this logic.
4.) Dirivng- the standard in the US is pretty low and sometimes people drive and
5.) Text and social media- Never understand the jargon in the texts. Its so much easier just to call someone. Why is it so important to update you frickin' twitter account? Are you really that important?
6.) Rushing and failing to plan ahead- People will rush in front of you in a line, in traffic or hurry through a conversation or meal to get home but will then spend hours watching reality TV shows. They also fail to plan ahead and anticipate both their life and other issues (see #10).
7.) Reality TV shows- give a false impression of the real world.
8.) People with loose morals in regards to drugs, sex, family and profanities primarily due to TV shows.
9.) American food and overpriced beverages (coffees and anything out of vending machines or from restraunts).
10.) Finances- People who overspend , spend unwisely and do not save their money. Live within your means and you will live a happy and prosperous life. Some of the younger and more enthusiastic segment of this population can be found outside of wall street with picket signs in their hands.
11.) the (liberal) media: do not report ALL the facts or under emphasize some and overemphasize others to prove their point and jump to conclusions. I try to diversify my media exposure between CNN, Fox and the Ny Times. This way I can hear all points of view. Try looking at and reading different news websites one day, you wouldn't think they where reporting on the same galaxy.
AND
12.) People who are uninformed but belligerent and have strong opinions but few facts to back them up. This is not just in reference to politics.
Bogans, even worse are the cubs =cashed up bogans at least with the regular bogans you don't see them in Thailand drunkenly trying to round down a $10 .50 Rolex that has a $1 dollar profit margin (the stalls owner has 6 kids to feed) and doing other unpleasant things of that nature.
Bogans are to poor to travel so I dislike them least .
Bogan = aprox 20 % of the aussie population .
CUB ( lower- middle class) aprox 30 % of the population.
50% of aussies are bogans .(if in doubt stay around for "Australia day" ) but be warned don't ride a bicycle on that day or any other when you think about it if you value your life "hooning" is a national pass time in this country.

From my local culture:
1. The matriarchs who gossip and belittle others all the time. I wonder if any of them are really friends with each other because of the amount of bitching and backstabbing they do.
2. The way people swear as a way to assert dominance, it's like a dog urinating on a bush.
3. The men spit in public.
4. Dogs as status symbols.
5. Too much alcohol.
6. The defensive, chip on the shoulder people have.
7. The competitiveness in terms of conspicuous consumption that makes everyone live beyond their means.
8. The accent is painful to hear at times.
9. People are so reluctant to try new things, in fact they're terrified.
10. The generally low level of literacy.
National culture:
1. The indirectness.
2. The snobbery.
3. It's a nation of pushovers.
4. The lack of strategic thinking and efficiency.
5. The men being so terrified of showing any emotion.

I am Hispanic and the things that really irk me of my Hispanic culture are:
* People are too emotional. Ever been to a Latino funeral, evangelical church, or a bar?! No such thing as a stiff upper lip here.
* Machismo is not masculine, in fact, I find it quite effeminate.
* The pandemic egotism (the obsession to seek attention). Loud modified cars, shouting, loud music, revving engines, etc. Another cultural trait I find to be effeminate and very annoying.
* Lack of civic concern. City politicians love our apathy.
* Adherence to Roman Catholicism and superstition.
* Obsession with novelas (soap operas) and other crappy programming.
* Lack of consideration to others. Most apparent in ghetto WalMarts.
* Many Latinas are attracted to losers and are unashamed of it.
* No concern to deeper things in life (i.e. philosophy).
* Blind support to political liberalism.
* The cultural hypocrisy. Express pride in Mexico's pre-hispanic heritage, but "white" and mixed Latinos mistreat and discriminate against Mexico's native-Americans.
* The gullibility to pseudo-science and fraudulent marketing.
* Ineffective parenting. Many parents are too doting or emotionally distant; or sometimes even both.

Yeah. I thought it was bad enough that those types of shows even exist to begin with, but the true horror sunk in when I realized that that stuff probably gets exported to other countries and that's what a lot of people probably think typical American life is really like.
If anyone from another country wants to see what life is like for average Americans through television, Wife Swap is probably the closest you're going to get. Either that or the cartoon King of the Hill.
Idaho rose don't worry to much I went to America only to florida and I found the people very hospitiable and there are simalar things to us here in Australia the houses are bigger but the layout of the suburbs are the same.
We do have a sense of Humour that Americans don't understand as its a lot like the british probably why they did an american version of "Kath and Kim' but on their website a lot of americans liked our show.
I remember they cut bits out of "The Castle" they put meatloaf in it instead of rissoles which is the same thing only like patties.

I think they have some episodes of "Kath & Kim on you tube they are really funny.
I hate how people in America use every excuse in the book for letting themselves get fat. If you don't want to exercise and you like eating junk food that's fine. I don't care. It's not my business. But at least admit it. All this tolerance crap for people who won't even put forth much of an effort to better their lives really gets on my nerves. If all of these excuses and diseases were as prevalent as people want to believe they are, then other first world cultures that eat a better diet would be having problems as well. You know, from 'inherited' diseases. Our country doesn't focus enough time on teaching people the importance of eating right and exercising. When people start to gain weight from their living habits, they try diets and pills, surgery, specially formulated foods and drinks, etc, etc. It really makes me mad. There are starving people out there in the world. And our culture is all about "go big, or go home." My family never taught me how to eat right or how to exercise. I had to learn it on my own. I was a chubby kid, and a chubby teenager. I got tired of it. I did something about it. And it really wasn't as hard as people like to make it seem, it just takes time.
I'm not a fan of racists or race fetishes. People are people, not 'just' a race. Our culture, as a free country, seems to have problems with this..
Another thing; average intelligence online English language/spelling elitists. Just like how some people aren't very good at math and others aren't very good at art, not everyone is going to be inherently good at grammar. They may practice and have gotten as good as they're going to get. It seems to give some "special and oh-so-above-the-rest select few" an air of superiority completely nullifying what another individual has to say just because "their" is spelled 'thier'. What a cop out. Most people are average. I just don't get why some want to/feel like they're God's gift to the world. Maybe it stems from an inability to understand what's being said unless it's been adhered to by an internal verbiage dictionary? It's very much cultural. It's my culture. The culture of moderately educated self-important college student arses.

I actually feel the opposite of this, not saying people should embrace anorexia, I don't even think those super models look good. I just hate getting treated like some kind of weirdo just because I like being thin and am attracted to thinner people. See a normal looking person and someone like my mom will go "Ewww look at that skeleton!!", I even get told I'm too skinny which is absolute BS. Lots of people I know act this way too and it worries me. I know I will get tons of flak of this, I'm just tired of getting shat on for wanting to be healthy and eating what I deem as normal. Seems like if you don't want to eat fastfood or lots of junk in the US you're some kind of freak who is too vain and self conscious. Alright

I really hate the double standards that exist in my country too but I'm not going to list them to avoid offending others, which will happen despite what others claim.

Spoiler: They don't think they're God's Gift to the world, anyone can do spellcheck when posting on a forum. These people act like as*holes because they don't have any self-worth and have to leap on someone's throat about something relatively minor that wouldn't bother a "normal" person. When someone confuses there and they're my feathers get ruffled a bit but I don't try to hurt the person's feelings.
Most of the elitest as*holes you deal with on the internet are very insecure and feel some kind of void in their life so they go out of their way to make others feel inferior.
This isn't really unique to my country, but I hate troll culture. I think trolling and harassing people is stupid and a waste of time, it only makes you look more pathetic. I don't like Christian Weston Chandler at all but I think the people who spent years digging up every bit of information about him are worse.

That makes me hate tipping even more. It is enabling employers to get around minimum wage laws by attempting to force their customers to subsidize their workers.
If tipping is something that is basically mandatory for workers to get their full wage they need to either pay them that full wage or make the tip part of the bill. People that are cheap or poor aren't going to pay extra that they don't have or can't afford when it is voluntary. When I used to go to bars I never tipped a bartender even once.

Scotland's culture is very like that of the rest of the western world. We still seem to have an image of lochs, bagpipes, kilts, haggis and shortbread, but that's not what Scotland of 2012 is about. Cultures specifics which I don't like are:
Smoking - we have the smoking ban, which means crowds of smokers stand outside pubs, shops, offices, hospitals, everywhere. It's much worse here than anywhere else I've ever been to.
Fake tan - you've never seen extreme fake tan unless you've been here (althought some English people will dispute this) - it's so bad that some don't even look human.
Disrespect for others and their property, e.g. people sitting at the back of the bus, with feet (dirty shoes) on the seat opposite.
Littering - many people don't seem to know what it is to hold on to something until you find a bin. And it's worse here than anywhere else I've been to. How did this happen, I wonder? I remember it being drummed into me as a youngster and would never dream of dropping litter in the street (and neither would my 6yr old). But, it's what very many teenagers do every lunchtime. They go to the chippy and, after they've eaten, they just drop the papers on the ground, where they're standing.
The rest of the culture that I don't like isn't specific to here.
