Window AC unit in the summer; noise machine the rest of the year. I live along a busy road and have inconsiderate neighbors, but white noise helps immensely.

I can take it or leave it for the sound, but my wife likes the fan for white noise to drown out extraneous sounds which disturb her ability to fall asleep. I like to feel a breeze, so that works out fine for us both.

My ex-girlfriend needed a fan (or fans) blowing right on the bed, and it was a typhoon in that room! It didn't stop me from sleeping, but it was very unpleasant when getting up in the middle of winter, with the room very cool, and then to add an interior gale-force wind, made me about freeze to death trying to get clothes on.

Fan on in summer,in winter if there are background noises such as my son watching t.v. in the next room.I have a window a.c. unit in the living room but I have a love hate relationship with it.It gets over a 100 here in the summer and humid so I like the cool but the constant background roar from it bothers me,it drones on and on,it begins to make me really woozy. Not even coffee helps,I'll fall asleep like a zombie and sleep for hours and wake up with a sleep hangover. Then I can't go to sleep at night and a viscous cycle starts.I think it was built by Greek Sirens, they say"sleep, sleep".Does this happen to anyone else?

I usually sleep with a fan on because I do not like hearing noises of some other blowing fan at around 4-5 in the morning. It keeps me cool which is a bonus.
