I wouldn't say the world would end. The pillars of human society might, given that millions of whackos legitimately believe that the world will end. I expect to have the Red Cross and National Guard at my town by the weekend.

I don't think it is. If a Mayan calander was going to run out, why would it destroy a big massive planet? Only things like meteors or comets or whatever heading for the Earth might destroy the planet, even then it might not destroy the WHOLE planet, and scientists or geologists would discover it properly and it'd literally be all over the news and everything, and the world would be getting freaked out and everything. My mum didn't even know about this 'til last week, and she always watches the news and she reads the newspapers.

So don't worry, the world is not going to end. I've got work on the 21st December, hopefully that's my last day of work until boxing day, I do not want to work on Christmas day.

I looked at the weather forecast, it says 9 celcius and sun with some rain showers. Saturday is the same.

The Universe and all it contains will be unaffected by the fantasy/fear of a few simple minded primates on a rocky planet orbiting an unremarkable star in yet another spiral galaxy.

Likely, some of these unstable minds will elect to snuff out there own existence to which I say 'good riddance'.

Not in the least. Also, that's when I'm planning on purchasing my new laptop (payday!), so if a massive catastrophe were to occur, at least I wouldn't have to deal with the throngs of last-minute holiday shoppers and checkout would be a breeze.

I am beginning to wonder if all this 2012 Doomsday paranoia is playing a role in the spate of bizarre crimes this year (ranging from multiple incidents of cannibalism to several spree shootings - this year has definitely been a strange one).

ABSOLUTELY it will end on 21st!
How can you doubt it?

Just like it ended on 5-5-2000- the title of that domesday best seller in the nineties all about how the world would end on that date.

And just like it ended atleast twice this year already according to Harold Camping.

What the hell is going on with this prediction anyway? At first people were saying it was going to be the 23rd, then X-Files said it was going to be the 22nd, and now everybody is saying it's going to be the 21st. Tell me, is there SOMEBODY HERE ON PLANET EARTH TODAY WHO CAN READ THE MAYAN CALENDER? I'm thinking no.

  • 1872 – Challenger expedition: HMS Challenger, commanded by Captain George Nares, sails from Portsmouth.
  • 1879 – World première of Henrik Ibsen's "A Doll's House" at the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen.
  • 1883 – The first Permanent Force cavalry and infantry regiments of the Canadian Army are formed: The Royal Canadian Dragoons and The Royal Canadian Regiment.
  • 1907 – The Chilean Army commits a massacre of at least 2,000 striking saltpeter miners in Iquique, Chile.
  • 1910 – An underground explosion at the Hulton Bank Colliery No. 3 Pit in Over Hulton, Westhoughton, England, kills 344 miners.
  • 1913 – Arthur Wynne's "word-cross", the first crossword puzzle, is published in the New York World.
  • 1919 – American anarchist Emma Goldman is deported to Russia.
  • 1937 – "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs", the world's first full-length animated feature, premieres at the Carthay Circle Theater.
  • 1941 – World War II: A formal treaty of alliance between Thailand and Japan is signed in the presence of the Emerald Buddha in Wat Phra Kaew.
  • 1946 – An 8.1 Mw earthquake and subsequent tsunami in Nankaidō, Japan, kill over 1,300 people and destroy over 38,000 homes.
  • 1962 – Rondane National Park is established as Norway's first national park.
  • 1967 – Louis Washkansky, the first man to undergo a heart transplant, dies in Cape Town, South Africa, after living for 18 days after the transplant.
  • 1968 – Apollo program: Apollo 8 launched from the Kennedy Space Center, placing its crew on a lunar trajectory for the first visit to another celestial body by humans.

  • 2012 – California secedes from the United States and declares Fnord as its Emperor for Life.
