I have had the chance to fire one. The 7.62x39mm bullet is far superior and much cause so much bodily damage than the one used by NATO(5.56mm).In the AK and SKS rifles, you can get dust, mud and water in the breech and it will still fire and will not jam. In the AR-15/M-16 you need to constantly clean it because if you don't clean it the rifle will jam. While the AK can go the distance with out cleaning. But the Chinese rip off of the AK called the Nornico MAK-90 is a piece of junk.

The army really needs to have both their M-16s and some AK-47(or AK-47 like) gun depending on the range of the combat. The main reason the army uses M-16 is it's ranged ability.

I agree. The AK bullet has more stopping power and go through an 8 inch piece of wood and crack concrete at a 30 yard distance while the 5.56mm(.223 bullet) just dents it at a 30 yard distance. The U.S. Army needs a heavier bullet like the .308 bullet(7.62mmx51NATO) used in M1 Garand rifles used during WWII. The bullets the Army uses are extremely weak especially for the type of combat they are in.

I'm from Australia and the gun laws are really, really tight... I've never fired anything bigger than an air rifle  But yeah, I do love guns... Someone mentioned the BFG from Doom... Kick ass!! ! I also love the double barrel shotgun from Doom 2  That has to be my favorite weapon from any game... but also, the sheep launcher from Worms, railgun from Quake 3, the Devastator from Duke 3D (kind of like a machine gun crossed with a rocket launcher... sweet!) and the 44 pistol from Soldier of Fortune :D

My 10-year-old neighbor has a gun collection... BB guns and air rifles. He has no interest whatsoever in shooting a bird or a squirrel or a rabbit. Old fashion lollipops, on the other hand, explode spectacularly when you hit 'em with a BB.

I hate the double barrel one far too slow.

You bet. If you have a good scope it you can hit your target 1000 yards away. They even have 50 calibre hanguns.

Hell yeah! A semi-auto version would be excellent. Add anti-recoil stabilisers and you have yourself one fine anti-air and light vehicle weapon. I read that a few minutes before you posted the link.

They do have a semi automatic 50 calibre rifle.

The reason for the NATO 5.56mm round was NOT to kill but to cause more serious casualties. It was meant to drain enemy resources.

Casualties use up battlefield resources much faster than dead people. Often you use soldiers to stretcher bear along with a medic, plus medivac, field hospital etc.

A dead soldier you literally just walk on and delay corpse recovery till post battle.
