if you're gonna say "merde!", if you accentuate the last syllable as "DUH!" that intensifies it. and the first example is [approximate] "that is really all your fault!"

Much like the old oriental curse: "May you live in interesting times!"

In reality I think it came from an old German word.

Yes, I believe you are correct about its Germanic origins. Supposedly many "bad" words were old English words that were considered to be vulgar, because the Norman invasion made the French dialect the "proper" and official language. English was the crude language of the peasants.

I don't fully trust people who never swear.

Rarely, I think people around me would be really surprised when I did cuss.

I'm not sure how you fully can. People who are anti-cursing, unless morally based, come off as very pretentious and fake to me. Too insulated. Just my opinion. I know there's a lot of negative assumptions about people who curse as much as me so... is what it is.

But I curse as much as any living being I think. Always have going back to grade school. I never cursed around my mom until I was an adult out of respect, but everywhere else it was fair game. I can't get a sentence out usually without one "f". My parrot has a filthy mouth. Just awful. It's hysterical some of the things he says. I'm convinced he's the raunchiest animal in the world.

I also believed f**k to be from "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge" as well. Maybe not tho.

They used to think I was a Jeckyl and Hyde character in my last job. If someone came to my desk to ask a favour, I would switch from a non-stop stream of profanities aimed at my PC, to Mary Poppins level politeness with the person, and then back again.

I think in general I do most of my cursing aimed at inanimate objects and abstract concepts - but very little in conversation with other people. If I'm having a melt-down, that's another matter though - I could make a stevedore blush with my foul mouth then.

It should be noted that "fock" means "penis" in dialectal Swedish.

I read somewhere that it is of Dutch origin, and might have been a term used by sailors.

Never in person; upbringing. Never sure if it would offend someone or not, plus, the time you should be swearing it's better to just shut up and think/act.

Sometimes on the 'net.

I don't believe in cursing for cursing's sake.

I believe many people substitute cursing for more apt, precise, and illustrative words, thereby lessening the quality of any conversation.

I don't curse too often. Thus, when I do, it has more effect.

If I curse too much, it becomes like "the boy who cries wolf."

I cuss more often than I like to admit. I get it from my mum.

so that might mean that the movie "meet the fockers" might mean something else entirely? it's [at least in the aforementioned dialectal Swedish] mean the same as dicking somebody, IOW dicking=f-ing. Hmmmm... :chin:
