Here we call "takeout" the food you order online/on the phone and gets delivered to you...

It can be that, too, here. We might call it "takeout."

But we never say it is "to go" on the phone---because that's taken for granted. No "label" is needed.

Sometimes, we pick it up at the place, instead of having it delivered, to save on the tip. We might say it is for "pickup."

If it's in the plans to call someone for delivery, we say that we are going to "order out."

Quite a few European countries don't do tipping (it's actually already included in the bill).

That's what's great about Europe. The stated price includes tax there.

It doesn't here. We must add it at the cash register/till.

Pretty much everything. I mostly get takeout from a Vietnamese resturant and a Japanese restaurant.

For fish and chips there is Ivar's and an Irish pub. I also sometimes get sandwiches from a bbq place. All local independent places often in a structure that has been around 100 years.

I am not counting the usual drive thru chains. Or the 7-Eleven were I get hotdogs.

There are a couple of decent Asian places nearby, but I can't stand food packed in styrofoam. Environmental concerns aside, it leaves the food soggy and unappetizing. Styrofoam packaging is outlawed in the Seattle city limits, but in the suburbs it is everywhere.

'Carry-out' can be another term for 'take-out.'

Only a couple of places I go for take-out. Our town of a few thousand people has excellent Thai Food. Another place has a good (gluten free) pizza, and also good hamburgers.

There are some places where we could get food to go but we don't drive & the places aren't super close. Having to go out & bring the food home by bus &/or walking is kinda a pain & the food wouldn't be as good. It's easier to eat at the place thou having pizza delivered is pretty easy too. Plus we don't go out a whole lot to do stuff like eating out so eating out is kind of a treat. When we have a shopping trip we tend to be out around the time we'd like to eat so it makes more sense for us to eat while we're out. There was a Dunkin Donuts a little ways down the road from us but we've only been there a few times & haven't been there in a few years. We have ate there some of the time but brought em home others. It's easier for us to eat at the Dunkin Donuts at WalMart when we go shopping. The Dunkin down the road recently closed anyways.

where i live out in the sticks, about a 3 mile walk down the road is a general store that has junk food in it, along with the usual mouse traps, axes, gas and oil etc. no restaurants out here.oh well, helps to keep me relatively slim.
