Why not both?

Empirically I would say that humanity overall is becoming more intelligent. Education has become much better and far reaching. The Internet has made education and knowledge easily accessible. I would say the modern average human knows more than any average human before in history.

It seems that the virus of superstition has attached itself to the same channels that knowledge is being spread. And there are pockets of reactionaries opposed to education that seem very shrill in contrast to the progress being made.

It might just be, that we are witnessing the emergence of a new form of language that is much more effective that what we have right now. Effectiveness often brings about a reduction of complexity and a low-entry level.

I guess everything can be blamed on social media, where about 90% of it is really antisocial media. And by antisocial I don't mean asocial as in not craving social interaction, I mean antisocial as in arrogant, cruel, no empathy, and no regard for right or wrong.

In a way, the antisocial media (good term there), just revealed what I knew, and what many of us do: many humans on the inside, are ugly and it manifests when they can reveal it to others without that social inhibition of face to face. Unless you so happen to be Autistic or something, then it manifests to you in the form of bullying and so on. Even those that say they hold virtue on such, show ugliness for the "other". Ugliness is still ugliness. (No saint here, but I don't intend to harm others and wish the best for everyone, as there's too much pain in this world already.)

Intelligence will be similar, it's just that the mask was pulled back for a lot of humanity so to speak.

Once again, lawyers, especially in the US. Why risk getting your butt sued off because one person did something worthy of the Darwin Awards? There was one lady in the US who actually sued the weather reporter because he said it would be sunny but when she went out it rained, she got soaked, and then she got influenza. In spite of that fact that colds and flu are caused by viruses and not from getting cold and wet, like any doctor would tell you, she won the case. Cringe.

It's impossible to protect people from their own idiocracy. I think we should give idiots the freedom to do whatever extremely dangerous ret*d sh!t they chose to do if they are not harming anyone else & let them deal with their fallout themselves. Maybe then people would stop de-evolving because they are getting themselves killed off instead of reproducing like rabbits, the way evolution is intended to work.
