Wow. Old thread.

BTW there was lightning and thunder in Seattle a couple nights ago. It was 30 degrees and snowing. Weirdest thing ever.

Me too. I live in area where thuderstorms are very common, and very intense. Being outside during the worst ones (when its absolutely bucketing with rain) is pretty scary, especially when you're driving. However when it's not raining I usually sit outside in the cooler weather (because the approachng storm brings a cool breeze) and look out at the lightning display on the horizon. The best part is that they almost always occur during the night and I also find the smell of rain during a thunderstorm to be entrancing.

When I was younger, I could not get enough of thunderstoms adn taht type of weather.

When I was 7, there was a tornado warning and a tornado touched down about 3/4 of a mile from the house. I ran out the basement and out of the house. I was jumping all over the yard, screaming in exitement as I was hit with hail, 40-60 mph winds and all sorts of stuff blowing around. My mother and two older sisters had to tackle me and tried to drag me back into the house but I got away and ran down the street whooping and hollering all exited.

You would think I won the lottery or something. I did that several other times while there was really bad storms, run outside totally unexpected out in the weather and run up and down the street yelling and jumping around. The flashes of light and the thunder would scare the jeebus out of me but also the adrenaline rush would drive me bat shait crazy and it is comparable to be a thrill seeker type of person back then.

I dont do that crazy stuff anymore, not since I was around 10 or so.

I love thunderstorms! But when the Thunder gets really loud and sudden, then I get really upset.

when I was in the hospital for a breakdown there was a big storm. I saw everyone looking out the window so I went to the window to see what they were all looking at. And there was this huge water spout about 8 feet from the window, just sitting there.

We all sat and watched it wiggle back and fourth. I remember it was made up of thousends of little streams of watter weaving in and out like intricate braids.

Eventually I thought I should tell a staff memeber. Needless to say they made us all huddle in the hall way after that.

It was funny seeing the look on my therapist's face when I toled her there was a water spout right outside.

But it was the most beautifull thing I ever saw.
And defintly a once in a lifetime sight!

I was scared to death of thunderstorms and tornandos when I was a kid, but now the only thing I hate about them is the power going out.

Fire tornado beats all!

I like a nice big thunderstorm becuase it cleans the air, I hate that sticky nasty feeling which you get in summer just before a thunderstorm. I feel that the air is so much cleaner after the storm.

I have seen some interesting sights, I once saw a lightning bolt his a tree at less than 100 m, by chance I was looking almost straight at the tree. I also once saw the power system for a whole town shut down as a thunderbolt hit.

However I do have a rational fear of lightning, I stay away from high ground during electric storms and I dislike being woken up by the noise of thunder.

I have noticed that although they occasionally spawn tornadoes, and have very high winds, hurricanes usually don't have a lot of thunder and lightning in them.

thunderstorms, no. Hurricanes (Fran and Floyd, missed Hugo), not really. Driving in the dark on black ice or snow...that makes me nervous...;)

Absolutely, nobody likes that muggy, humid feeling. High levels of humidity are one of the ingredients for thunderstorms. We get a lot of thunderstorms where I live because we're surrounded by giant lakes.
