As I was saying, I most certainly am not anyone's sock puppet!

Another reason that I didn't see mentioned(if it was I missed it) is that the forum software has not been updated in an extremely LONG time & our site creator does not spend much time working on the site. There's been lots of bugs at times & some have caused posts to disappear when attempting to post & some have caused the site not to load at times.

That's true, yesterday while trying to make a post it gave me about five errors in a row before I had to copy my post and rewrite it.

^ Which errors were those - the SQL errors?
From my experience they've been reduced to 1-3 per day, sometimes even none, but further tweaking is required.

A quick way of saving a post before submitting it:
1. Click inside the post's edit window.
2. Do Ctrl-A to select all the text.
3. Do Ctrl-C to copy it to the clipboard.
4. Submit the post.

If you accidentally press a key after step 2 the text will be replaced by whatever was typed.
To recover the text, immediately do Ctrl-Z to undo the keypress and restore the text.

If submitting fails with an error then clicking the browser's "Back" button should return you to the post edit screen with your text intact. I've seen reports where that results in the text being lost and since all this happens locally in the browser, I'm inclined to think there's a browser/browser-related issue.

If "Submit" fails and/or the text is lost:
1. Create a new response.
2. Click in the edit window.
3. Do Ctrl-V to paste your text from the clipboard.
4. Submit the post.

The age of the forum software actually has little bearing on its performance - unlike people, software doesn't age and tend to make more mistakes. Its performance (granted, such as it is) is the same as it was when first installed - late 2014 in this case.
Of course missing out on improvements and additional facilities provided by later versions is the primary result of not upgrading, and this will include bug fixes - but the common complaints I see aren't actually due to bugs in the software.

The version before the 2014 upgrade was pretty awful and had some really nasty bugs - none of which are present in this version.

Some of the above won't help much if you're on a mobile. Having said that, a lot of people probably don't know that if submitting a post fails, simply reloading the screen a couple of times will usually succeed, eventually, even though it may seem as though the post was lost.

Yeah, I was going to add a line about it not being much use on a mobile...
Generally I avoid browsing on my mobile and only use it for quick lookups - most sites seem pretty unusable otherwise.

There were a lot more people here when I joined in 2016, but to be frank a high proportion of them were preeeeeeettty damn obnoxious. I believe a lot of them got culled during a row which started with some PPR troll posting a photo of a lynching, so

This kind of forum is kind of “old school”. I actively avoid the “big social media” platforms. Me … I liked the internet better when it was less social. I am a bit odd. This place is a bit odd. So maybe that is why I keep coming back.

I am not daily - I can do anything to excess - so I need to back off from time to time.

Yes - I've seen the wreckage of that. Definitely not a happy time.
I was on an extended break when it all blew up.

It's the old school look-n-feel that I like too.
Things are... leisurely, with no haste and "must keep up, must keep up" nonsense, and the forum facilities are, well, adequate without being in your face about it.
It's still addictive though!

Disappointingly that person wasn't a troll by most definitions, they were a longtime member who was well-liked which meant they had quite a number of supporters during the ensuing blow-up.

I believe some of the culling was voluntary, those supporters ragequitting based on not liking how things unfolded.

I like the old school bb style too, it reminds me of the early days of the Web which i also much preferred.

But I'm also aware that to some of the younger people who poke their head in the door, this place probably looks antique, some of them won't ever have seen a bb site before. I wouldn't be surprised of its a bit off-putting to some.

I joined recently, and have stuck around because of how simple and easy to navigate the forum is, along with the nice people to interact with--I like the old school look and feel! ʅʕ•ᴥ•ʔʃ I find myself getting annoyed by a select few posters, but I'm pretty good at ignoring them (for the most part).

In regards to the errors, I just refresh my page a few times until it goes away, or exit out of WP and come back in 15 minutes. The errors aren't a big deal to me.

I also avoid big social media platforms (don't have Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok, etc. on my phone, and RARELY use snapchat, Deviantart, Pinterest, etc.). I have a habit of doom scrolling, so removing those platforms from my phone has been beneficial. I'll stick with my autistic friends instead ʕ•ᴥ<ʔ

WP and other autism forums have become important to me.

My first experience of Mastodon turned out to be a disappointment. Two reasons primarily:

1. Users seem to have been so programmed by commercial social media that they have no idea how to use Mastodon. Far too many people were just pasting content directly from Facebook, Twitter, etc., which kind of defeats the point of Mastodon existing at all.
2. I got the impression that the instance owner was being bullied by people dictating what should be allowed and what shouldn't, and had basically become too tired of it to moderate any more.

I decided to move to another instance, and will lurk there for a while and see how it goes.

I lost my fixation of this site ʕ´•ᴥ•`ʔ. I noticed I tended to get really aggravated by all the political posts, and lowkey misogynistic men pining over their need for a girlfriend. It's a turn off when all you see in the forum are people complaining (yeah, I know, I'm complaining about people complaining right now). I have the ick.
