so what's the problem? I need to make a written list of items that I need to do each day, and number them by steps. I still get it all done

My soon-to-be ex-wife used to tell me, " I just don't understand why you can't just get up in the morning, go downstairs and make a list of things you need to do that day and DO them!". She's a pediatrician and was the first person to ever mention ADD/HD to me, while jokingly saying, "If anyone has ADD, it's you!".

Weird... she understood it with her patients, but it was different when it came too close to home...well... actually it was IN the home, so it was EVEN CLOSER 8O

Not to pick on you serenity, but the comment you made above sounds just like what I lived with all my life.

I agree with you RB (or whatever you like to be called here, although RichardBenson is a lot to type for a name  :P ), I have finally accepted the fact that I am the way I am and I actually function quite well in my own world.
Now I'm just working on a patch that will allow the 'other' world to link with mine a bit more satisfactorily.
But that doesn't mean I have to give up all my piles of stuff around the house, my impulsiveness, and all the other wonderful things about me :D

I DO expect the rest of the world to meet me half-way, although I'm generally happy if they can slog it through to a quarter of the way

I'm sorry if what I said came off wrong. I did not in any way mean to imply that something was "wrong" with the OP, or his way of doing things. I was trying to say the exact opposite, but I guess I could've worded differently. I was trying to say that it's okay if someone with AS has to do things differently, and I was trying to say that I do things differently, too. I meant that some of those kinds of tests measure how a person does things in a "typical" way, but they don't consider that someone can get by just fine doing things their way. That's what I meant by "The task in question still gets done, so what's the problem? " I did NOT mean that someone with AS isn't trying hard enough to meet certain standards. That's the opposite of how I feel. Making lists is MY way of coping, and meeting my own needs. According to those kinds of tests, I'm sure that I would not be able to live on my own, but I can, and do, it's just on my own terms.
I'm not sure if I'm conveying what I was trying to this time or not. I'm getting upset, and when I get upset I can't seem to get what I'm thinking out in a coherent way, so I'm gonna stop for now.

no problem. mis-comunication is a pretty big problem in people who are aspergers, :D

Yeah, I do that too but only when I'm face-to-face with someone or on the phone to them.
This internet thing is a hard medium to communicate across whether you live with some sort of label on your head or not.

Serenity, please don't continue to be upset.
I don't think the OP was angry at you.
I certainly wasn't trying to say you did anything wrong, just that the one remark I quoted sounded like you were saying if you can do it, he can too. Sorta like a pep-talk, or cheering him on.

OOOOOOOHHHHH! DO I EVER FEEL STUPID!

Serenity... I just looked down and re-read your original post and then Richard's post where he clips some of your post and comments on it.

I apologize to you Serenity!

RB cut off your words so that his quote of you sounded like you were telling him, "So what's the problem? I need to make a written..."

TOTALLY taken out of context and mis-read by myself. I can see now that the "...so what's the problem?", is actually this...

How can I ever make it up to you? Just name it and... ummm... I'll think about it!

wsmac, it's okay, no hard feelings. It was just a great big misunderstanding. Everything's all good! :D
