I hate the phrase "We only use 10% of our brains"
It's a load of rubbish,a myth recycled by charlatans & quacks to sell books.
The brain is a miracle of activity, constantly running our bodies,the control center for the millions of processes that keep us alive & functioning at peak efficiency.

My favourite phrase is "The more you learn,the more you CAN learn."

Keep your eyes peeled

Every time I hear this phrase I makes my skin crawl because I get this vivid image in my head of someone peeling someone eye.

Actually when I hear that phrase, I get a mental image of heels behind head... ha. It's just that it tends to distract my concentration from the current conversation, if you know what I mean... :wink:

Things that annoy:

Any sentence beginning with "You should...."
Any sentence beginning with "No offense, but...."

Things that don't annoy but probably should:

Bureaucratic jargon of all kinds, à la Don Watson's Death Sentence and Weasel Words
Trendy turns-of-phrase du jour
Any jargon intended to exclude the uninitiated

Things that do annoy but probably shouldn't:

Anglicisation of borrowed words from other languages
Insertion of placeholders such as "whatsername", "doover", "thingamajig", etc. in place of the object's correct name
