ok, I've said it once so I'll say it 6 days before that darn particle accelerator is fired up

it is NOT going to kill us all, and I'll be saying "I told you so" in 7 days :P

151.75 hours to go until this experiment.

I hope it goes well. :D

Everyone remember back when the giant tenth planet, Nibiru, was going to collide in 2003? And remember a few years ago when the Galileo satellite was going to turn Jupiter into another sun?

Good times.

if I see "Evidence, please?" one more time, im going to shoot someone..

by the way

"This full beam injection will take place at an energy of about 450 gigaelectronvolts (GeV). Over subsequent weeks, engineers will gradually boost the energy and fine tune the machine."

doesn't sound like they're going to put all their eggs in one basket, it will be a gradual increase in power.

Evidence, Please?

I mean...

... do you have a specific target in mind?
... do you have access to the target?
... is the target close enough to shoot?
... do you have access to a firearm?
... do you have a firearm in your immediate possession?
... is the firearm loaded?
... is the safety off?
... do you have the firearm pointed at the target?
... is your finger on the trigger?

Lets calculate how much energy it would take to create
a black hole with an event horizon of radius 1 meter:

Escape velocity is c and event horizon radius is r.

0.5mc^2 = Gmm/r

0.5c^2 = Gm/r

m = rc^2/2G

mass = (1m*(299792458(m/s))^2)/(2*((6.67300*10^-11)*(m^3)*(kg^-1)*(s^-2)))

mass = 6.73426629 * 10^(26) kilograms

E = m*c^2 = (6.73426629*10^(26) kg)*(299792458(m/s))^2

E = 6.05 * 10^(43) joules or 3.78 * 10^(62) electron volts

First of all, courtcases are running to avoid the experiment from going on. So lets first wait and see if the thing will get the go-ahead in the first place.

Secondly, this is the same bunch of scientists who invented internet and basically the most specialised and well-trained scientists in the world. Do you really think such people would take any risks of destroying the planet? Sure, science can go wrong, but the odds of this happening are smaller than the odds of a UFO with aliens from Mars landing in your back yard tomorrow.

So give me that drink and see you all on 11th September. And if we would die... Oh well, I realised several dreams in my life so I can look back with fulfillment, and a short death without suffering seems a better option than dying from an illness...

PS. is it a coincidence the doomsday experiment is to be done one day before that other tragic event a few years ago? :roll:

PS II. on the Svalbard archipelago there is a "doomsday vault" so lets all head there and hide just in case the supermassive black hole would happen after all :wink:

It's a damn tube, whick means that it's not even remotely possible that it will kill us all.

I don't think it's because of this, but lately I have been having this feeling that I am going to die soon. I had it one night a couple of weeks ago and I had it again last night. I don't know if it's for real or if it's just my mind playing tricks on me. I don't feel that way now so I don't know. Wouldn't be ironic if something does happen on the 10th? It won't but wouldn't it be though? :lol:

I saw the 6 billion dollars experiment documentary a while ago, which it was interesting.

So this is it! September 10!
The end of all the world's problems at last! :D

Yes it would, not sure if such destruction would be quickly or with some timing, perhaps all disappears until September 11. If that's the case, no one will be there anymore to contemplate the irony.

Regardless of me not believing there is anything risky to this doomsday experiment, I do think it is a waste of money when in some countries thousands of people could get a proper education and home and medical care with this money.

The value 4.50*10^11 is less than 3.78*10^62 by about 51 orders of magnitude.

I DON'T THINK ANYTHING HARMFUL IS GOING TO HAPPEN!

This is just a particle beam accelerator.

What if they accidently create a real big-bang, but this time Earth being the center of the new universe? :P

Anyway, I think they must have had made precautions and security measures very carefully, it's hardly that their equipment could get fairly damaged as well, wouldn't that be a waste of money, if so?
