top this...;)

I lived on an island in the Pacific called Kwajalien, which was the site of a WWII battle. There was unexploded ordinance slowly working it's way up to the surface. If we were ever to find any, we were to call Security, and they'd deal with it. I found a 5" shell (probably from a destroyer), in a vacant field.

I went to Security and told them. We went back, and then I couldn't find it. They thought I was pulling their chain, so they left.

A short while later I found the shell again, and being rather ticked at this point (like I'm going to lie to the cops) I picked up the shell, and carried it back to the Security building, and left it in the parking lot where they could find it. If I had tripped along the way, I would have been a grease spot covering a big hole in the ground..

Believing whole-heartedly that any religion based on a book could bestow enlightenment and salvation upon me, to the point that I became a minor leader in that religion.

But wait - there's more!

The really stupid thing was when I started asking questions of the religion - mostly to do with "Why." That road leads only to betrayal and heartbreak.

I know
and what makes it far worse is we had both smoked up b4 hand, though he had smoked the majority of the joint, and he was in the middle of a pretty bad come-down and I was pretty much unaffected so I thought(and hoped) against my better judgement that he was still "intoxicated" enough that he wouldn't remember. Ever since any time I'm on Facebook and see he's online I go offline to avoid him or if I do chat with him I respond in sharp one-word phrases(yup, fine, etc). It's not that I think he'll bring it up because I know he won't it's that I don't want to bring it up myself and tell him I regret it because I know that would mess him up fairly badly.

Dropping out of university. My lecturers pleaded with me not to leave because I was a top student and they told me I was heading for a first class physics degree. However, mix a little aspergers in with a little depression and some boredom and silly things happen. This was before the days "Aspergers" even existed - if you follow what I mean.

Most I can think of at the moment is trying to boil an egg by just placing it in an oven (I thought that is how you boiled eggs, didnt realise water was involved), then after wards when it had exploded I touched the egg bits with my bare hand, ended up with burns for ages.

I try not to spend too much time investing in regret (which, to me equates to having done something remarkably stupid) but every now and then, when I am feeling a bit too full of myself I remember back, oh about 15 years ago: I inherited a condo in Pompano Beach, Florida. It was free and clear- all I had to do was make the modest tax, utilities and association dues. Something like $400/month. I was (am?) still rather dumb and something of a party hound. Long story short: I mortgaged the condo, gave the money to someone I thought I was in love with. Then he left and I couldn't afford the condo any more. I sold it for $60k and barely broke even. Today the condos list for around $400k. I really effed up my whole life because I couldn't grow up.
