Thelonius Monk almost certainly was an aspie IMHO.

I think so, too.

There are probably lots of black people out there with aspergers or other forms of autism. Does it really matter if they are famous or not. Why is everyone so obesessed with fame these days.

What about Paul Robeson, he's a black singer with autism.

I'm bi-racial (african american/white) and have AS. I'm famous BUT only in my own head.

In this case, it wasn't really about fame. It's a matter of finding somebody you can look up to. So, finding someone who is black with Asperger's can assure you that you aren't alone, and maybe that you can be famous, regardless of your condition.

The thing about fame is that those people are prominent, and sometimes are even influential. With that in mind, we aim to see somebody represent our set. :-)

I think Michael Jackson was an Aspie! Yeah, someone on this thread (I know this is a really old thread) said they thought Michael Jackson's problem was Joe Jackson----and, I AGREE, to an extent; but, there were just alot of OTHER "things" about Michael, that just totally seemed to point to Aspie, IMO.

Also, I think Whoopi Goldberg could be a candidate. I think I can see that she would be shy, in private, and introspective, intelligent, has "problems" with people, etc.

What about Richard Pryor? I don't know, but there seemed to be something about him.

I suspect Ray Charles was on the Autstic spetrum, he's got a real feel for a music, which a lot of autistic people have a talent for. Also he seems to be steming when playing music. :chin:

Also watch him moving around all the the time, looks like he is stemming.

In 1997 I had the wonderful experience of watching Ray Charles perform live, he was only a few feet away and directly in front of me. Unforgettable. Tonight, out of nowhere, the concert performance suddenly replayed in my mind. Then I had the spontaneous thought "I think Ray Charles was an autistic musical savant, and he stimmed by rocking during his performances". I was quite astonished by this perception and googled it, curious as to whether anyone had ever thought the same, which led me to - Wrong Planet :))))) In 1997 I had no idea I was autistic and had never heard the word. I loved his music from the moment I first heard it, it struck a special chord in me, more special perhaps than I realised decades ago..

At first I was going to mention George Washington Carver, but turns out Carver was gay, but did not have Asperger's.

Thank you, I had never heard of him before.. what an extraordinary life. Seems he was bisexual from reading the link, however if he was gay, that in itself wouldn't rule out autism..

I read elsewhere this comment about him as possibly being autistic: "What kind of neurotypical would ever bother to invent 300 uses for a peanut??"
