Irish Wolfhounds. One of the friendliest.

I don't really like German Shepherds, since it's the police dog of choice. :(

i like german shepherds the best (all dogs lives are equally valuable of course) as far a size and build.

when i was in year 3 and 4 and 5, there were 2 labrador's that hung around our school grounds. they were friendly and waited for the kids to get out of class who would pet them. (this would not be allowed these days). the dogs were owned by people who lived nearby, but they roamed at will. one was a creamy colored labrador and the other was a big black male labrador.
sometimes they had fights, and the black labrador ("razz") always won. if other dogs came by, there was the bottom smelling ritual, and then the sharp rapid short arc high tail wagging, and then they hauled off into a fight.
razz always won. one day a german shepherd came into the grounds (we were in class but we watched from the windows). they sized each other up and then they fought.
the german shepherd made short work of razz, and chased him out of the grounds.
my family had a german shepherd and i was astounded at how much more capable they were than the black dog at shool. i never saw a german sheperd fight before then.

i am not violent, but watching dogs fight (naturally of course) hits on a primal instinct and you can not look away.
i looked at our german shepherd when i got home and decided that they were the best of breeds. i was only 9 then, and when i got older, i did not care about the fighting power of dogs any more.

the prettiest type of dog we owned and the most likeable, and my equal favorite breed, was a samoyed.

they are very happy faced dogs, and they have nice white fur. ours was a female and it was nearly as big as our german shepherd. they got on well together.

here is a samoyed

i like the way they stand, and i like the particular way they pay attention (i can not say why)

This is my pit, Missy. I adopted her from the county animal shelter in 2004.

She is so pretty! She looks a lot like my Pit, only mine is black and white. The markings are extremely similar and everything.

^^^Those are my two fav breeds, a cane corseo, and a bull mastiff! I love big dogs that protect, we have a cane corso on our block, hes as big as a great dane, but looks like a pitbull but is stronger then a wolf lol, he'll come and protect you if he knows u, he'll lay right beneath you and if you come up and are a stranger he'll do this growl, its cool. Their not the cutest breed, and bull mastiffs are cute, but yet again not the cutest breed, i love them for the same reason their strong and veyr protective.

>>>>> these are the dogs i have today, a german short hairpointer with a tic disorder/tourettes and adhd, ocd, and a retired racing greyhound who has arthritis and anal gland problems haha, she also walks sideways, and cant bark normally or sit haha. The pointer is 2, the greyhound is almost 14. Both of them I wear out all the time haha... Image

My favorite breed is the Basenji. They're hard to describe; very intelligent, very mischevious, and they don't shed, so they're really good for people with allergies. They're "barkless", but they aren't quiet - they yodel, scream, yowl, growl and mine can roar like a lion. They're very, very cool but they can be a total pain if they don't get their way.

I dislike German Shepherds for the same reasons =P

I quite like mixed breeds too, they often end up looking extremely weird and curious.

here's one cute Husky/Rottweiler mix:

When I was younger, I was absolutely and completely obsessed with Salukis. In a position where my family could not get a pet, nevertheless I was still completely absorbed by every slightest detail of the breed, far more than your average puppy fever. I do still love dogs, and Salukis will definitely remain one of my favourite breeds, but I no longer eat, sleep and breathe dogs.

My three choices are Irish setters / Italian greyhounds / Shetland sheepdogs "shelties".

We currently have an Irish setter AND an Italian greyhound .

Incidently , to sort the anal gland problem - all you have to do is give it a bowl of "All Bran" each day - even 2 - morning and night.

We got this tip years ago from a retired vet and works a treat.

Cheaper than having the vet squeeze the glands.

It can also be used if dogs are a bit "loose" as it firms things up !
