i made a pinhole box and also got a tip about using your phone in selfie mode with your back to the sun. pinhole box gives a clearer view, but either is adequate.

The clouds cleared for just long enough for me to set up my telescope (with a solar filter) and get a good look at the eclipse. :D

Lady friend brought me better (Chinese  ) ISO certified glasses. I wasn't in the path of totality but being close enough was still amazing.

I hope everyone's Monday expeditions went swimmingly!

What is an eclipse, anyway?

The autism program at my school had an eclipse viewing party that started at 12:30. :D The only reason I actually went there was for the free food, I ate some pizza and a cupcake and then left. The eclipse was in an hour, so I just waited in my dorm.

I saw it an hour ago, at 1:30. I was in my dorm at 1:25, so I had to sprint out to see it. The autism center was having an eclipse viewing party, so I made a mad dash down the stairs, across the street, and across the parking lot in about two minutes and finally got there in time to see it. It was cool. 8)

They had boardgames and kids playing the Wii U and stuff afterward, but I didn't stay. I've had enough of my share of people for the day.

Cathylynn, that's hilarious. I'm going to pass that one on to a lot of people.

Mikeman and Lillikoi, neat eclipse-viewing experiences. Believe it or not, I actually went to an eclipse-viewing event too. I know, the irony of a blind person going. But we had some fun and good conversation.

I didn't get to see the eclipse but I didn't want to in the first place because I'm not into that sort of thing. I had a panic attack earlier so the eclipse was the last thing on my mind.

^Oh, sorry to hear, I've had panic attacks before. Recovery can be tough too, so I hope you're doing all right.

It wasn't a full eclipse where I am but about 80% of the Sun was covered so it was still pretty awesome. This is a photo of the eclipse at it's climax taken directly from my phone camera:

Image

Here is a similar image taken by holding my solar filter over my phone camera:

Image

After taking these I set up my telescope about as fast as humanly possible and took these two images by holding my phone camera up to the eyepiece:

And these were taken a bit later right before the clouds came in and blocked my view again, you can even see a sunspot:
