It's been a cold, grey, wet Winter here this year. Theoretically Spring starts in September, and years ago it always did, though climate change has shifted our seasonal changes and Spring can be cold here now. So there is often an exodus to sunnier climes by kiwis at this time of year, usually Australia or the Pacific Islands. (We kiwis aren't flightless birds after all!) It's about 3 and half hours by plane to touchdown at Brisbane International Airport.

We also used to have some temperate seasons here, but now it's becoming the zone of extremes - extremely cold in the winter, extremely hot in the summer.
