I have tried and tried to embed a YouTube video, without success. The YouTube site instructions say to copy and paste the code in the embed box. When I do this, I just get lines of code but no video. I try to use the YouTube button in the new post section on WP, but it only wants a URL which links to the video. Can anyone instruct me?

Copy the URL of the video you want to post.
In the new post window, press the little Youtube button then paste the URL in the prompt window that pops up.
Preview post to make sure it works.
On Youtube, If the line of code next to "embed" says "embedding disabled by request" you can't post it. Rather you can post a normal URL link to it instead.
