Where are you???

Please go to hospital and get a full medical assessment for the accident claim.

The officer that came to the accident dropped us off at a restaurant. We're going to go to urgent care after my dad picks us up. He sounded f*****g annoyed about having to do it and didn't sound concerned at all, I hate dealing with him.

Don't feel guilty. You're both likely in shock because it was so unexpected. You have no idea how your neck / body will feel tomorrow, next week, or next year. I don't want to worry you but sometimes these relatively minor injuries can become really problematic over time. Insurance always wants to know if you were seen within 24 hours of the accident. When your aunt files insurance for a new car they will want to know the extent of all damage and hardship including physical injuries. Don't hide the fact that you already had an Anxiety Disorder, because that might get worse too.

Thank goooodness you are OK, relatively speaking. :(

We're at urgent care now. My neck hurts and I have a headache but that's it so far. I didn't even process what happened but my aunt said my head whipped forward and then hit the head rest really hard so she's concerned. I was focusing on trying to not tense up and to prevent things from hitting my face. The airbags didn't deploy either which is scary that they didn't work.

It's pretty impressive how well engineered cars are for keeping the contents of the cabin safe, even if the rest of the car looks demolished. Everything that collapses is absorbing energy that would otherwise be transmitted to the occupants.

I'd get looked at, especially if it's covered by insurance. If there's ongoing issues having your injuries documented will help as you fight that battle.

Yeah, I was amazed when I saw the car that we were fine. Her little car held up so well. lmao

I hope they check for concussion.

Sorry. Didn't know you had an accident.

I've been in fender-benders-----they are pretty traumatic as well as heavier accidents.

The "good thing" is that it's pretty definitely not your fault since you got rear-ended. And you might be able to get some money in a settlement.

Have lawyers contacted you?

Make sure an accident report is submitted, and that somebody talks to the insurance company pronto. So they can process this thing fast.

Airbags deploy explosively. I wouldn't assume they didn't deploy, I'd assume the impact wasn't enough to trigger them and that they might have made things worse. They're not supposed to deploy in accidents where they won't be helpful and they're more sophisticated at detecting those compared to older models.

It's essentially an explosion inside a bag, if you didn't make contact with anything on your way forward them not going off is them working as intended.

It must have been a pretty heavy hit to snap you that far forward.

Something to mention; relaxing is bad, bracing is ideal. That's what your muscles are for in that situation, to keep the squishier stuff from being sloshed so violently. It's better for the muscles to bear the worst of the impact compared to nerves, connective tissue, etc. A cliché one will encounter is, brace like you're about to get punched with a car. This is consistent advice whether it's frontal or rear impact.

That's two sources but it's pretty consistent if you search for 'brace during car crash'.

Just so everyone knows, because they don't include this in driver's ed. I first read about it in the context of motorsports.

The ambulance attendants, if they're taking you to a hospital, ALWAYS put a brace on your neck when they're sending you to a hospital.

I got stabbed in the top of my head once----and they put a neck brace on me upon transport to a hospital.

Both the front and back of the car is smashed because we got thrown into the guy in front of us pretty hard. The guy didn't slow down much at all while we were stopped. The airbags wouldn't have done anything in this situation, but it's still scary that they at least possibly didn't deploy. I'm glad the accident wasn't worse.

I also was told in drivers ed. to not tense up and when I went to the urgent care the doctor said that's what I'm supposed to do. It's not like I went completely limp, but I didn't massively tense up everything. I'll look more into it, but I've always been told to not tense up.

I'm glad you're safe and that it wasn't worse. I'm glad you didn't strike anything in cabin, or get struck by anything, or something stupid like this:

Quote:
In 1999, while in the planning stages of their debut full-length, Calculating Infinity, bassist Adam Doll is involved in a minor fender-bender shortly before the recording can begin. Because he is bending over to pick up a CD when it happens, the bump results in a freak injury, in the form of a spinal fracture, paralyzing him from the chest down. As a result, [Ben] Weinman performs both bass and guitar on the full-length.
