7° in Tel Aviv (was -4° in Jerusalem) coldest day ever recorded. Putting salt on the roads in Jerusalem to prevent ice, and for the first time ever we have been told to keep a tap running to prevent the boilers from bursting.

In 2013, Jerusalem got between 20 and 30 cm of snow (8-12 inches). I've seen snow fairly frequently in Jerusalem--like a few times a year they get flurries, though accumulating snow is rare.

I don't believe it's ever snowed in Tel Aviv.

I do understand what people mean, though. There's not much central heating in Israel. When it's in the single digits Celsius, and there's no heat, it's pretty damn cold.

Whereas virtually everybody in NYC has steam heat, by law, when the temperature gets below 55 Fahrenheit in the day, and 45 Fahrenheit at night.
