i watched a documentary about unlikely and strange animal behavior.
one story was where a leopard killed a baboon, and as she was going to eat it, she noticed a little fluff ball wriggling out from underneath the dead baboon. it was a baby baboon and it was clueless as to what what was going on. it was so innocent and defenseless, and the leopard suddenly directed it's attention to the baby baboon, and it's maternal instinct "kicked in" and it was sniffing the baby and acting gently toward it.
soon afterward, hyenas became aware of the dead baboon, and it was because the leopard spent so much time inspecting the baby that it failed to drag the dead baboon up into the trees to get it away from hyenas before they noticed.
instead of dragging the dead baboon up the tree to protect it's kill, it gently bit the back of the neck of the baby baboon and took it up the tree instead to protect it from the hyenas.
the leopard licked the baby baboon clean, and the baby baboon bonded with the leopard and they slept together for a few hours. the leopard clearly had love for the baby baboon.
unfortunately, the baby baboon died some hours later because of the cold. nature is very savage.
i have found a youtube clip of the segment, and it is heart breaking to me.

Yes and you seem to be affected by cognitive dissonance
why do you say that? because i eat meat? i presume that you are alluding to my attitude toward animal suffering, and the simultaneous fact that i eat meat, otherwise you are using an incorrect term.
i love animals and i feel sorry for them because their lives are so hard. i have never posted a conflicting sentiment. it is sad that the mother baboon was killed, and i did not mention that. i only focused on the tiny life of the helpless baby baboon. actually i have little idea of what you mean by your comment so i will leave it to you to clarify your statement.
maybe you are calling me a hypocrite because i care so much for animals, and yet i like the taste of meat, and i feel i need it to live healthily. the way i see it is that i am 1 person of many millions of people who consume meat, and i f i chose not to eat meat with the hope that less animals will be killed, i would not be effective in doing so.
the meat is already dead in the butchers display case, and me refusing to buy it will not bring it back to life. i eat about 2 kilograms of meat per week at most, and if the global (or even only national) demand for meat was reduced by the reduction of my consumption quantity, i do not think that any less livestock would be killed. the resolution of the accuracy of the livestock industry's notion of "demand" is not that fine as to be able to factor in my personal consumption, and so whether i eat it or not will have no effect on how many are killed.
anyway, i will repeat that i do not know what you mean, so tell me.

that veal video of yours was pretty tame, as was the footage of Indonesian slaughter, remember the 7.30 Report said that wasn't the worst of it.
what do you mean by "pretty tame"? i was appalled by it. do you need to see blood spraying all over the place to feel anything? i do not need to see what happens after they go through "the door" in order to to feel awful about it. i am not a sensationalist who needs to see them actually being slaughtered in order to know how dismal their existences are. i know that beyond "the door", their lives are over, and that is sad.

And I'm supposed to feel sorry for millionaire graziers loss of trade am I ? farmers profiting from animal misery. Don't make me laugh ditto when the claimed they "didn't know"
you have bounced over onto the wrong set of rails. i never indicated that i feel sorry for livestock farmers. you are imagining things that i never said or thought. i am at a loss to understand why you are deriding me for your perceived idea that i feel sorry for farmers.
i love animals, and if very few people ate meat, and if my desire for meat required an extra animal to be killed, then i would not eat meat.
i know you care for animals too, and it is silly that you see me as some sort of advocate for livestock farmers.
