Hello grinning dormouse and jk1! Hmm... we should think of a nickname for jk1. I can't think of any! :(

I have to say jk, I haven't noticed your presence on the forums until very recently. I agree that people who post here should be acknowledged whilst on the same page, and hope that yourself, Sylkat and Andras don't feel too unpopular, because I don't think you are.

The reason why I barely noticed jk1 before is because he doesn't have an avatar. I remember posters by their avatar, not by their name. It's an AS thing of mine, I'm very bad at names.

Perhaps jk1 has an invisible avatar?

I agree with you guys that my not having an avatar (or having an invisible avatar) as well as my meaningless username is making me rather unnoticeable. I myself first look at the avatar to immediately identify other posters. Sometimes I fail to recognize other posters when they change their avatar. Any way, being unnoticeable is not as bad as being actively shunned. I don't feel any negative vibe here. I also think "feeling" unpopular is a rather subjective thing. You might feel unpopular even if others don't think you are. Still when you feel that way, I think this thread is there for you.

jk1 I think you are being very hard on yourself. I always notice your posts, and in fact, at the risk of getting you banned from the 'unpopular' thread, I will actively click on a thread if I see you have posted, as you always have something interesting to say.

Andras, Ten, and Sylkat, I am not sure what you are doing here either. All of you seem like nice people.

I do agree with what people say about recognizing people from their avatars (at least to start with). Andras, I did not recognise you at all when you first changed your avatar. Ten seems to transcend avatars. And Sylkat has the cutest avatar of all :D

Thanks, Moomingirl! You are really nice. I'm glad to know that at least there's one person who reads my posts. And by now you are one of my favorite members here.

I think avatars do sometimes really affect the way you perceive other posters. For example, I can't help thinking that danmac's simple face avatar is actually him (I really like that avatar and his funny posts). Also the impression of andras changed when he changed his avatar. Your avatar kind of becomes part of your personality/identity. If I find an image that really represents me, I might use it as my avatar.

I wouldn't say I check every post jk1 posts but he sure makes interesting/nice/funny/informative posts! I'm quite jealous of that. :(

I could ask you the same! Do realize that being nice does not equal being popular. Real life is a very good example of that.

Yea my first avatar and the current one are very different from one another. I think this one represents me better. The previous one was a rushy pick. :P Strangely enough the change of my avatar somehow effected my personality here.

I honestly thought your avatar represented a hippo on some weird planet at first until I read your title. Dang, I still have a while to go to get a title.

Make that 2!

You really should find a fitting avatar some time. Just like me you identify people with avatars. Right now it's rather difficult for me to identify you.

Thanks, andras, for the comments! I also do read many of your posts (maybe not the ones in clean chat) because you give off a sense of cheerfulness. I actually liked your smily cat avatar.

I've been on WP for more than half a year, but I just can't make up my mind about an avatar. This is my usual indecisiveness, I guess. There are a few that I'm considering. I'm tempted to use my favorite cartoon character like many people.

I have watched the cartoon version of moomin story before. I really liked the atmosphere of its fantasy world. As far as I remember there were only two human-looking characters in the version that I watched.

Thanks jk1! The person in my avatar is actually supposed to smile as well but that somehow changed when I had to re size my avatar. I'll figure out sometime how to fix that..... Actually I'll start with that right now, expect my avatar to be smiling soon....I hope! :P

It's too bad most people don't post in the clean chatroom, I like it there! :)

Edit: Avatar change worked!

Andras, sorry to say this, but your avatar's boy is still not smiling. His facial expression seems rather like seriously trying to get things done in a very hectic situation. Or have you not uploaded the updated avatar yet?

Ah dang, I thought it was clearer now. Well, I guess it's time for take 2. Uno momento.

Done. Any better now? (and do be honest!)

It looks better to me, Andras. Although quite why he would be smiling so much while waving a sword around I am not sure.

I am a bit worried about people judging on the basis of avatars (although I admit I have done it myself: Andras was lovely and friendly, now a little bit scarier  Sylkat sweet and funny, jk1 mysterious). So what are people thinking of me? Maybe I should have a disclaimer "not at all like a Moomin". But how do you judge Moomins, as most of you don't know about them?

Yes, most of the characters are pure fantasy. I love it because they are very neurodiverse, but also very accepting of each other. :D

Edit - I had to change my Avatar too, I was getting dizzy from being upside down for so long.

I've never heard of Moomins outside of this forum, so I can't judge them.

I do think that people judge me based on the squirrel-related things on my profile, but I don't really care all that much about it. :D

Andras, to be honest, I still don't think he's smiling though I can see the small difference now. As Moomingirl pointed out, he doesn't seem to be in a situation where he should be smiling any way. A good avatar nonetheless.

Moomingirl, I am pretty familiar with the moomin story and immediately recognized your avatar as such when I saw it the first time. That's why I got the impression as if you were someone from a fantasy world. But I do realize that people who don't know about moomin might simply associate you with a hippo, though I think it's still a cute hippo. Your new one's nice, too. Although an avatar will give a certain impression, I think that if one reads other people's posts enough, then he/she would get to know their personality based on the contents of the posts.

Sciuridae, I've been wanting to tell you that I really like your squirrel avatar. I think that's the cutest squirrel picture I've ever seen. I had never paid attention to the face of a squirrel seen from the front before that. Did you take that picture yourself? I have read enough of your posts to know that you have more than just an interest in squirrels. I get an impression that you are an intellectual person though I know you are still very young.
