I used to love sucking on coins, especially pennies, like hard candy.

Who doesn't? They always taste the same as when you bite your lip. It's on par with the chicken and the egg - does blood taste like pennies, or do pennies taste like blood?
That's my strange and pointless thought of the day.
Pennies taste like blood. Blood came first,
then pennies, so blood could not have been intended to taste like something that wasn't even invented.
I actually thought about that. I have far too much time on my hands.
Ah, but did you ever taste blood prior to the invention of pennies? I think not (this would, after all, make you rather old). Maybe blood felt lonely, and decided to share a taste with pennies. Prior to pennies, it tasted like cabbage... or something

But blood is not an animate creature - it is without the capablility to think for itself, or feel. It could not have felt lonely.
Maybe the inventor of pennies liked the taste of blood but didn't like hurting himself (or herself, whatever). This way, he could always taste blood but didn't have to endure pain. It's possible.
