Jakki, dear. Please stop doing this to yourself. Says the woman who also does it over and over and over again.

There are only so many spoons and if we borrow from the future, we have to pay it back with interest.

For me anyway, it’s one step forward and two steps back when I borrow future spoons.

Stepping back and taking it more slowly has been anxiety producing. It is still tough for me to stop and rest. But I’ve hurt enough now. I don’t want to hurt that much anymore.

Today, I used my new twig stove for the first time. Checking it out for possible use on my canoe trip this summer.

:D Not exactly.

The twig stove is about 6x4 inches and six inches tall. I tried to find a video that looks like mine, but didn't see any. I'm testing one out made by a friend who sent it to me. It comes apart into five flat pieces, which is good for packing. This one weighs about 400 grams, just under a pound. The titanium one weighs only 100 grams or about 3 ounces and if I like this one, I'll probably get the titanium one.

When canoeing, there frequently are places one must leave the water and carry canoe and gear over land. Being an old lady, I am trying to get my carry weight as low as possible.

So, I'm not taking a cast iron stove. :D

I don't like fires in wilderness unless they are really needed; fire separates me from the environment. Alcohol stoves are quiet and I really like them, but one has to carry the liquid fuel. Canoeing friends are trying to get me to go with a twig stove. We'll see.

Feel free to PM me if you want to talk more about spoon management.

A firebox, twig or whatever one wants to call them, stove, works fine I too have found, and if I weren't so much an asocial Autistic loner and camped with others, that'll be what I'd use to make food and drinks for them and me. I've got one and it's fine, and one can do quite a lot with a small pot and simple ingredients. I tend to make feathersticks out of the twigs/sticks, which leads to a far more reliable ignition and sustained fire, and that is where a cheap Mora comes in handy. I just eat tinned stuff for more than a day deal though. :|

Mowed the rest of the yard. Cut up many of the smaller gums that my mother wanted removed nearby to some of the water tanks (just used a machete for that job, as usual). Hit one of those melancholy states but then realized I should be happy, so yeah; been a bit of both today, but seeing happiness will be an achievement as it's hard to see beyond that void where nothing exists but that desolation.

^ Are feather sticks where you use the mora to slice down a branch to make like a broom? I haven't thought of that in years and years. In Canada and in the Adirondacks there are a lot of white birch and the bark makes a great fire starter. Here in the swamps, fat wood or pitch pine make great fire starters.

Today, my great accomplishment is finishing the budget for the grant for my employees. I am going to be able to make them very happy with unexpected windfall for at least the next year. Yay!
