I know literally nothing about Digimon tbh. Agumon->Greymon->Metal-Greymon? Then there's the cactus digimon, the orange bat digimon (Patamon?), the beetle... and at some point the protagonists could transform into Digimon or something? ^^
Well, what I DO remember is the OST, which utterly kicks ass.

Yep, and after MetalGreymon comes WarGreymon.
Yep, in Digimon Frontier the main characters could all become Digimon [although in Tamers, the three main characters could sort of fusion dance with their Digimon].

I always knew there was something odd about Digimon names vs Pokemon, and that oddness comes from the fact, that Digimon names never got translated!

Patamon = FlapMon
Tentomon = LadybugMon
Togemon = ThornMon
Everything makes sense now.
Me neither, but Palmon looks kinda cute, don't you think?

^ Hmm, I can't say anything about that.
The reasons being
1) I have a very, very loose grasp of Digimon.
2) When I watched them, both shows were dubbed in my native language, which isn't English. 
But here's something about Sailor Moon: I found the first season to be the most enjoyable since the focus was on the main characters and there was a lot of introductions and personal development going on, vs. later it was still good but somehow it was less interesting to me. I don't know why exactly, because some enemies like Mistress 9, the "doctor", and Sailor... uhm, the death one ^^", were really cool...

Let's just say that the English dubs of Digimon were cheesy and leave it at that, shall we? I agree, I like Palmon.

So would Angewomon be HeavenlyLadymon? I mean, her glove is her bow! How awesome is that!

To answer your question, Kuraudo777, it's one of the most popular magical girl anime. It got me into the anime fandom many years ago!
