am no expert but can tell you that dreams in freud's view were "the royal road to the unconscious [mind]." Edgar Cayce ["the sleeping prophet"] went into trance and astrally travelled through higher dimensions in "the akashic records" in order to find information about the people who asked him for help. Robert Monroe, in a series of 3 books, described his adventures astrally travelling through the various dimensions outside of our mundane 3-dimensional one. dr. Eben Alexander recently wrote about his own experiences in that regard also.

I like stuff from Carl Jung myself. I find his theories so interesting!

I've heard about his theories of the collective unconscious and find them fascinating.

towards the end I was escaping from an island because of the hungry demon-like creatures that resided there. I was with 5 other people with cheesy tattoos and the kind of dreadlocks where you can tell they tried too hard. they had a general vibe of annoying post-hippie pseudospiritual college grads and i don't remember how i ended up with them. but anyway we were escaping in a sh***y wooden boat with no paddles, sail, or motor. we were using our hands at first but it wasn't good enough and the demon things were gaining on us. so it became a puzzle to figure out how to make an impromptu sail with only the materials on our persons and in a dwindling time frame. the other people on the boat were not helpful in solving the puzzle whatsoever besides the materials in which they provided (projections?). I ended up using a long skirt, belt, some necklaces, a ring and two beads, thread torn from a shirt, a hair clip, two people's arms, and my torso as well as right arm. I became the human mast of the sail and thus had to pay attention to the direction of the wind and adjust accordingly. the hoard of swimming demons that were once chasing us gradually fell behind and eventually we had successfully escaped them all. except the dream never ended with a return to solid land or humanity or anything, we just kept on sailing until I woke up.

Five represents your persuasiveness, spontaneity, boldness, daring nature, action, and humanity. The number five represents the five human senses and thus may be telling you to be more "sensitive" and be more in tune to your senses. Alternatively, the number five may reflect a change in your path or that you need to alter your course. It is also the link between heaven and earth. To see demons in your dream indicates that you may be experiencing or inflicting fear, emotional distress or physical abuse in your waking life. Demons are also symbolic of ignorance, negative habits, and of your shadow self. The demons may represent a past secret that is still haunting you. An improvised sailboat indicates that you are making your way through life somewhat blithely, sometimes by the skin of your teeth and by hook or by crook if necessary. To dream that you have tattoos represent your sense of individuality and the desire to stand out in a crowd. You want to be unique and different from everybody else, particularly if you do not have any tattoos in real life. Consider also what the tattoo is and what significance it has in your life. It may represent something that has left a lasting impression on you. Alternatively, to dream that you have a tattoo suggests that a waking situation or decision is having a much longer lasting effect that you had expected. To dream that your friends have tattoos that they don't have in real life suggests that he or she is trying to express himself or herself in the relationship. the characters in your dream symbolize part of your subconscious self that want to get your attention and communicate some important message. If you do not have dreadlocks in your waking life and dream that you or your dream associates have them, then it indicate a rejection of traditional values and beliefs. You are going against the norm of society. Alternatively, the dream may be a metaphor for something that you are dreading. To see the mast of a ship in your dream signifies a long journey. Alternatively, it represents hope and salvation. If the mast is salvaged or improvised, then it denotes sudden changes in a situation.

thanks auntblabby! the stuff about the number 5 and the demons and the sailboat are interesting and probably relevant. however in the dream I was my normal looking self and did not have bad tattoos or greasy dreadlocks, it was just the other people. thankfully. I once had a dream that I let someone tattoo my ass without even telling them what I wanted, and they ended up tattooing words in different fonts to the effect of "passion" "'murica" "brittany" etc. and filled all the empty space in with bright purple. it was terrifying.

it is a possibility that the people in your dream represent aspects of yourself, whether you like them or not.

Interesting imagery.

Essentially you're taking off your own clothes, and exploiting your own body (hmmm....).

And doing so to help yourself, and a random group of strangers escape "demons".

It may not be as sexual as it appears.

The number five is also the number of fingers on a hand. And you're being resourceful in the dream. So it could be about being your own "helping hand". But you're also repelled by the five strangers. Like you need to do something repellent to you to save yourself from something in waking life. Perhaps from inner "demons"?

hmm i don't know about the sexuality...i'm not a very sexual person/don't think about sex very much. maybe repelled by my own sexuality or lack of??? i didn't find anything sexual about it in my dream, like the woman took her skirt off out of necessity because it was the biggest garment. but who knows. interpreting dreams can be interesting but i think it's somewhat futile as well. although i do think keeping a dream journal can be revealing over time.

can you explain a little to me about how you keep track of them? i've tried to keep dream journals but its hard for me to remember to do it in the morning, especially if i have to go somewhere that morning, which is most mornings. plus i always lose the damn things.

it helps if one replays the dream over and over as long as one can upon waking, but having to get up via alarm clock and hurry up in the rat race makes it hard no doubt. but I replay mine over and over until I can get to a notepad, then I just it down, the keywords at first then I fill in around the keywords as much as I can. that's the basic technique. but if an alarm gets you up, that pretty much makes the dream just evaporate into thin air.

I never use an alarm clock anymore. It's too stressful. I had a weird dream about this hero who was in some sort of sci-fi world and I think he might have been part cyborg. Anyway, he was almost fatally injured while fighting a bad guy and nearly died when the medical people tried to make him more and more cyborg, but when he was taken to a warm grassy field by his three friends, he revived like a Green Man archetype. So what do you know about Jung? I'm curious now.

i don't know that much about him, just what was discussed in my psych classes in college almost 4 decades earlier. your dream reminds me of one I had ages ago about metal monsters fighting and the one that got defeated exploded all over the place as shrapnel.
btw, how do you make yourself get up early without an alarm waking you up? the cyborg seems to mean that you are learning to let your heart speak up as opposed to just your head, you are becoming less rigid and more flexible in your thinking. the grassy field means there is kernel of solidity in you, a part of yourself you can always depend on. it could also mean you are struggling with issues of privacy versus openness, you are trying for the right balance. the number 3 as in the number of your helpers hints at past/present/future or father/son/holy ghost, mother/father/child etc., also "the third time's the charm."
