Elders are consoling my parents over my brother leaving their faith as if he died. In their minds, it’s probably worse. I’m not sure whether to laugh or cry. Maybe I’ll laugh today and cry tomorrow. :chin:

I think I’ll do that. They solemnly delivered flowers and a dessert. I had to talk to one of them. He asked how my mom was holding up. These people are batshit crazy. I should’ve said that my mom was currently engaged in improving her handstands while practicing Swahili, but sometimes it’s hard to think of the right thing to say until it’s too late. Another missed opportunity. Of course, at least I’m prepared for the next mournful visit which is sure to come soon.

I knew you weren’t making light of it. My brother was a lot different when they got married. He’s grown and changed while she’s stayed the same. I wouldn’t be surprised if they get divorced when my nephew turns 18.

I do feel for her even though she’s blaming me and my son. I can understand that too. That’s how their beliefs are. You know it’s a cult when you can easily know what members think and feel - they are told how to think and feel.

Yeah, it certainly does. At least I can be there for my brother. I was all alone when I left. He full on shunned me for about a year. The biggest surprise of my life was when he told me that he no longer believed.
