It's like a long stick that hoovers smaller bits up, to get into corners and such. It is called a wand on the model of hoover I have since there is a button called 'wand release' to detach the thing.

When i was a kid my nan had a hoover that i thought was magical. It was spherical and when it was on it floated on a cushion of air like a hovercraft.
