I'm the same when people say nasty things about the intensity of my special interests as if to say I'm another Rain Man. It only makes me want to post about them that much more.

The same thing is also true when somebody says that posting in a thread is a waste of time in a way that can hurt sensitive souls. That made me post in that thread even more.
