I recently received a belated birthday card from my grandparents, and ordered a book about Niccolo Paganini, and bought an mp3 album ("Of Dreams Forgotten and Fables Untold" by The Moon and the Nightspirit) with the card's contents.

I also bought a few sink strainers, a shower drain strainer, and a new baking sheet for the oven in my apartment. They were things I had to purchase when I first moved in, and since I'm soon moving out, I thought it might be nice for the next soul to move in not to have to run to the store as soon as they move in just to use... anything. They're also not typically the things you want to have to use second hand, so I didn't want to just leave the ones I had been using.

I don't know what kind of apartments you are in, but I wonder if the people who clean apartments in between tenants might liberate your gifts before the next tenant gets a chance to use them. But then, maybe the cleaner can use them just as much as the newbie. Good job on you anyway. Paying it forward.

Thank you :)

I hadn't really thought about them possibly being taken, though, it is possible they could be, I don't suspect it would be by cleaners. I currently live in a fairly low cost, rather old, one bedroom apartment covered in the bandaids of makeshift repairs. I actually had to clean everything when I moved in, and am planning to do a thorough job on that as well so the next person in doesn't have to feel all paranoid about germs and filth like I did.

It is possible the landlord might see benefit in getting the unit repainted as the old paint looks awful, and traps moisture causing perpetual mold battles in the bathroom during the humid summer, and in which case, he'd have someone else do it who could end up taking the things, but I really doubt he would bother spending money on something until he "has" to.

If someone takes the things I leave, I'll surely not know... so I don't plan to worry on such.

Just as an aside, there are laws regulating how often apartment rentals have to be painted, how often the flooring has to be replaced etc. Whenever I move to a new apt I ask to see the maintenance records to make sure they have ben compliant with local and state laws. Honest landlords wont mind sharing this information, though it could, I guess, be doctored paperwork.

Sorry, this is where my OCD kicks in, this replying to forums, blogs and message boards. Don't mind me.

Last thing I got was this delicious-looking cupcake something-rather at the bake sale.

However, that was until a certain someone jumped me in an alleyway--brandishing scissors, of all things--and stole my cupcake. Sad day.

A copy of Anchorboy, by former TSN (and now Fox Sports 1) personality Jay Onrait, some soy milk and a couple scratch tix. :D

First, I find a nice green sweater w/white, black and silver stripes across it, then I find two baseball caps (one of the Colorado Rockies, the black crown/purple bill model and a Lake Elsinore Storm cap), then I find a nice little 13' Sharp LCD TV.

Oh, and a 1980s-era San Diego Chargers blank jersey.
