I'm glad you didn't swim anywhere in NYC!

1 is true. The cool girls had basketballs so I thought I should want one. I was so disappointed when I realised I didn't even have a hoop or anywhere to use it (Lesson 1: "Thinking things through...") :(

My lie is 3. My skipping rope was thick and purple with squishy white grips. I really liked it.

Did you ever do "Double-Dutch?"

People believe it is, primarily, a black-Harlem thing---but I saw a film of white girls doing Double-Dutch back in 1927.

It still could have derived from black culture--but it's not like white people recently "discovered" it, like I used to think.

1. I refused to jump rope because I thought it was a "girl thing."

2. Same thing with hopscotch.

3. Same thing with jacks.

I didn't do double dutch at all. I don't even recall trying because it looked too hard and I wouldn't have wanted to stuff up.

I sometimes jumped rope with groups of school girls, with a long rope and skipping songs ... but I preferred using my little purple skipping rope by myself. I liked being alone.

I played something called Jumpsies a lot. It had skipping ropes low to the ground like limbo but we had to jump over them somehow. I forget what it was all about.

Your lie is 3.

1. I had no idea what Jacks was or how it worked, so I avoided it to spare embarrassment.

2. I have never played Checkers.

3. I really liked Operation.

4. I was afraid of Candy Land.

5. I loved The Game of Life.

I was a very cautious child. If something was remotely unfamiliar I was afraid of it, instead of learning how it worked. The fear was because I was scared of being embarrassed or looking dumb around the other kids if I asked questions. Perhaps this explains my mutism to a degree.

I was particularly "afraid" of games that I hadn't seen before: Jacks, Checkers, Candy Land, The Game of Life and all card games (Old Maid, Crazy 8's, etc). I didn't know how any of them worked so I was afraid of them. I still haven't played Checkers (or any of those other ones, to be honest ... but Checkers seems more surprising to people).

The only games I knew were Monopoly, Trouble, Sorry or Chutes n Ladders which I thought was a dumb game because it involves no skill or decision making. I did like Operation.

I was very afraid of Weebles. They wobbled but they didn't fall down. I only liked my Fisher Price Little People.

I liked the Game of Life. And Go to the Head of the Class.

Monopoly took too long.

1. I used to play Astronaut on the slide.

2. I played Batman when we played Batman and Robin.

3. I used to pretend I was Jack Nicklaus, the golfer.

I don't think you played Batman.

Monopoly did take too long, and I didn't know all the rules like how to buy real estate.
I just liked the figurines and counting my money. I never finished the games. 8)

That’s correct. #2. I used to play the Commissioner when we played Batman. I was a lazy, chubby child lol.

Tales of my younger self:

1. When hearing the tale of Jack and the Beanstalk, upon hearing the giant's line of "Fee fi fo fum I smell the blood of an Englishman," I envisioned soy sauce.

2. When I first heard the phrase "Pretty please with a cherry on top," I envisioned a cake with a cherry on top.

3. One time I'd read a story of a monkey obsessed with spaghetti, and decided to try one of the combinations listed which was spaghetti with pickles. ...didn't turn out the way I had hoped and just led to a huge waste of spaghetti.

1. I'm about to watch "Mary and Max", which I've heard is really good.

2. I'm about to eat Cherry Garcia ice cream, which I've heard is really good.

3. I'm about to listen to Led Zeppelin 3, which we all know is really good.
