My mom wasn't in a very good mood when she came home from work this evening and wouldn't tell me what the matter was. It's typical of her not to tell me what's bothering her until a few days later. But I still feel really sad and worried for her when I know she isn't happy. There's a saying that goes, "When mom's not happy, nobody's happy."

Thanks Mick. By the way, I'm sorry about what happened with your coworkers today. That man was being rude whether he realized it or not.

Thank you for thinking about me. That man was being very rude and I think that we should have moved to another table and left him alone. Some people feel that they can say anything that they wish.

reminded of how shiite my communication skills are. also i went to queer youth group and my youth worker helped me fill out some forms and now shes scheduled a time to meet next week to write up my "unreasonable to live at home claim". this is good but it scares me. she started talking about short term housing options and talking to her contact at centrelink and apart from the fact that it leaves what happens after the next 3 months uncertain it also makes the whole thing seem more concrete and immediate and its kinda scary. im afraid my claim will be rejected and im afraid it wont be. i went and sat on the swing in a deserted playground and thought things through. then i started to swing and it made me feel childishly happy but that disappeared as soon as my feet hit the ground. also today my comrade who works at uni of sydney as general staff gave us a debrief of sydney uni's layoffs. so far 164 academics have been laid off and more people- both academics and general staff- will be laid off. the vice chancellor is calling it cutting of "salary related expenditures". the bastard. how can he be so cold? they arent expenditures- theyre people! general staff havent been told if theyre fired or not yet. im worried for my comrade.

Dear Kevin,

We're sorry to have to tell you that our Natural Language Processing course will be delayed further. There have naturally been legal and administrative issues to be sorted out in setting up an online course infrastructure that works both for Stanford and the outside world, and it's just been taking time. We have however been able to take advantage of the extra time to debug and improve our course content!

We now expect that the course will start either late in February or early in March. We will let you know as soon as we hear a definite date. We apologize for the lack of communication in recent weeks; we kept hoping we would have a concrete launch date to give you, but that date has kept slipping.

Thanks so much for your patience! We are really sorry for repeatedly making you wait, and for any interference this causes in your schedules. We're as excited and anxious as you are to get started, and we both look forward to your joining us soon in Natural Language Processing!

Dan Jurafsky and Chris Manning

Awww, I hope everything works out.

So, anyways, I failed a math test today (I think). Hooray!

I saw a magazine that had a picture of Whitney Huston on the cover.

Someone invoked Uncanny Valley with respect to my increasing ability to mimic facial expressions and generally look normal but somehow irredeemably separate. Of course, unless this gets discussed by those speaking without true intention or knowledge, I would not mind the truth of the statements themselves.

I was once again reminded of my complete inability to function in social settings.
