yes. and yes.

granted, i haven't needed to use them, because there were alternatives, but i have written passages with a typewriter (my HS junior year english teacher had one in his class) and i know how to use a rotary phone as well.

:)

I used to have a rotary phone in my room that I used a few times. I've never used a typewriter though.

Carbon Copies (Carbon paper, as well as the copies it produced.)

I know this post is old, but I used to love using carbon paper. I thought as a kid it was like magic. :D

I have not read all 31 pages so apologies in advance for anything repeated

Transistor radios

Appliences with mono sound

Channel Changer, volume changers , brightness changers on the TV. They were not little buttons things you pressed but knobs. There was no remote, you had to get up and walk to the TV to do these things.

A big cabinet for the TV. The TV's now are 99% screen. The stand was part of the TV unless it was a small 19" room model. Then they were actual pieces of furniture.

TV's with Black and White pictures

I just hope regular books won't be phased out entirely in favor of Kindles and similar technologies. I love to read, but the bright lights of these devices hurt my eyes.

kindles and such have the advantage of adjustable brightness/contrast/inversion. that said, the little yellow plastic insert that enabled 7" 45 rpm records to be played in phonograph changers.

You mean they make ones that close by themselves? O_O Every minivan door I've ever used has had to be closed by hand.

Me too, and I don't have any uncommon sensitivities. I have hope though, because I remember the hype when Kindles first came out, and I don't think they're quite as popular as people thought they'd be. A lot of people still like the 3-D qualities of a paper book; I think that's because it makes the book a more genuine experience, as does writing notes by hand on actual paper (evidence suggests that information is retained better, too.) But I digress.

I remember floppy discs, 3" discs, and that otherworldly green text on first-generation personal computers.
