It's unpopular to believe that the earth revolves around the sun, in that Galileo had to recant such statements in his time for not only would they be seen as unpopular but, even dangerous..

I happen to know a fair bit about the Galileo affair. I will post a transcript of his "trial" if anyone would be genuinely interested.

Now! I will claim to be the most unpopular WP geezer because I have kicked, and will kick, all kinds of Sacred Cows.

You're never going to make the Unpopular Member's Club if you stay curled up in your bed thinking "I'll never do or say anything in case someone dislikes or disagrees with me".

I would not mind seeing a transcript of the trial as, long as it's not a burden for you..

I can't find where I lost the actual transcript of the "trial". Dang it, my library is in a mess.

There are many accounts of the Galileo affair, many of which are blatantly polemical and, of course, careful edited and embellished with conjecture to support one or other ideological opinion. Here is one account of the affair which, as far as I know, is factually fair although it is more sympathetic to Galileo than he deserves because it omits evidence from Galileo's own pen that he was his own worst enemy by arrogantly and impudently provoking the "status quo" with mockery and derision. Actually the case he presented was pretty poor and richly embellished with extravagant claims... a bit like a cheeky imp rattling the bars of a tiger's cage from inside the cage. Of course, once provoked, the tiger knocked him down.

Enjoy!

Obscurity is overrated, but if it is what you need, then take it.
