Happy Pancake Day everyone! :D

Hi, Joe!

'Pancake Day'? Is it about pancakes by any chance?

Yes it is. It's originally some Christian festival in which they break some fast or something for Jesus and stuff blah blah blah yadda yadda yadda.... But, like Christmas, it has lost all it's original meaning and become a day of fun!

Basically everyone makes and eats flippin' (excuse the pun) loads of pancakes for the sake of it. Usually with all sorts of lovely toppings.

How come you don't know what it is?

(Shrugs) I just simply didn't know about it.

Maybe it's just a British custom? I don't know though. I thought it was a universal Christian festival.

Shrove Tuesday is pretty much universal across the churches, although mostly associated with Catholics, and less so with your more strict Protestant peoples. They call it Fat Tuesday in the USA I think. But different cultures do it differently. Not many countries make pancakes. The whole point is to use up all your store cupboard fats and eggs and suchlike, as you weren't allowed to eat them during Lent, which starteth on the morrow. Anyway, I'll stop going on about it now. :D

In other words "LET'S EAT LOADS O' FOOOOD!!"

Noo... In my family we always ate the thin pancakes with sugar and lemon. But there's loads of different kinds of pancakes in this country. Ever heard of Scotch pancakes?

Well, apart from them defeating the object of clearning out your stores of eggs and butter, they are pretty manky. I used to eat them when I was a kid. But never for Pancake Day.

I do wish they'd let us write strike-through text here.

What on Earth are those?! I'm intrigued. Mindcha, I like Scottish food anyway. Well, most of it. My mum hates it. :D

They're definitely, er, a 'retro' food. A bit like Alphabites and spaghetti hoops.

I am loving this fruity, creamy concoction of dairy products and prokaryotic organisms!
(I will never look at yogurt the same way again.) 8O

Is cop slang or auto-correct? I'll take it as "Is it any good".

In which case one place I go has pretty good wings (sometimes) and I get a box to go because their food isn't all that great. The place I want to go today is pretty good. Sushi, seafood, a Mongolian kitchen place with all raw meat/vegitables and you throw it on a plate then give it to them and they'll cook it up....

We have a high population of Mexicans (and this isn't racist), but the quality of food isn't exactly good in these places/caters to the hispanics (hot sauce on the table, lemon and cucumber/watermelon etc in the buffet line). I tend to have to go to a different part of town for good food but this place has been quite good (probably because its new). When I went to Spain the Chinese actually catered the food to the Spanish with more vinegary type of foods and slimy things.

That's what it means, yes, sorry. It's slang.

Ooh! Sounds intriguing! We don't get owt like that here. We get the odd Chinese buffet place and that's it. All a bit bloat-y and underwhelming, really.

I could murder Chinese. Pity the "Chinese" available here isn't proper Chinese, it's just full of fat and other gubbins. Stodgy shite.

This place isn't so bad and I think I've bumped into one piece of fat out of 3 visits. Where I had to take it out of my mouth. I really enjoyed their coconut shrimp, loaded potato's, stuffed mushrooms, sweet and sour pork+chicken. But its probably not "proper" Chinese, we have a Asian food market down the road which has that....

Er, t'other way around: it's the last chance for a good feed before fasting during Lent. :nerdy:
I think it might be better known in the USA as Shrove Tuesday.
