Merry Xmas. I've occasionally read parts of this thread, but am generally staying out due to all the youtube videos.

Any chance of someone doing a voice chat of some sort this year or next maybe? That's more my speed than reloading a thread.

^

I'd also prefer this thread to be more of a conversation-style, to support lonely or isolated people through the entire holiday season. I didn't write much because I've been very busy and frankly very depressed about what's happening in my life. I suppose that's fair game though.

If anyone out there feels lonely, bored, or wants to chat I encourage you all to share goodwill and companionship here, in whichever way feels best for you. That might mean general chit chat, or more specific talk about whatever's on your mind. It doesn't have to be about Christmas or the holidays, but of course we wouldn't want people arguing and fighting so perhaps politics and religion could keep to other threads.

Are there any lonely hearts out there?

We'd love to hear from you.

My dad put some food together for me in a box and dropped it off at my place today. I was touched. What a Sweet Pea.

That's nice. ^

Boxing Day is meant to be about charity - reaching out to family and friends, or those less fortunate, to give food, gifts, money, time, or even just a helping hand. It's my favourite day of Christmas for that reason.

I don't know if that's why your dad gave you a box of food, or if they were just random leftovers, but it was sweet of him to think of you anyway.

I hope you're feeling better after that upset you felt on Christmas.

I haven't left the house since about midday on Christmas Eve, and will not do so until tomorrow (Dec 27). Haven't seen or spoken to anyone during the entire period, but hey, what else is new? Actually, this way of going about things cuts out the potential for a good deal of stress, but it does have its negative side as well, one supposes.

I finally got it together enough to cook Christmas dinner today..... think I should get in early this time and book a couple of days off right before next Christmas. I always finish my last shift of the year and turn into a twitching heap of jelly for four days solid.

That's how I am most of my life.
I can go weeks without going out, or talking to outsiders.
Christmas is the opposite as I don't catch a break.
We have a LOT of family commitments and traditions.
I'm gearing up for a big, double birthday celebration already.
That will involve much fanfare and excessive social overload.
I have to go order a cake tomorrow, for starters.
I'd make it myself but my oven isn't reliable lately.

I hope you're enjoying your solitude.
Are you reading?

Hugs.

I used to be the same, particularly in Uni but also during my career.
In Uni I'd sit exams until the 23rd or so, and then need to travel home Christmas Eve.
It was exhausting.
By the 25th I'd be poorly with a fever, or even vomiting.
It was all burnout but I didn't know the word then.

In my career it was much the same, actually.
By then I also had to add the stressors of single parenting, and actually "doing Christmas".
I had to buy the gifts and be Santa, and all that stuff.

I wanted to curl up and die before Christmas even started.

Hang in there - I think you've made an excellent decision for next year.

The only people I've spoken to in the last week have been the Asda delivery driver, the bloke in the local shop and my fellow alcoholic neighbour who I sent a christmas card to.
