Yes! But I only remembered after my last reply. I was thinking only of Diderot's most famous line  .

It's an obscure passage; I wouldn't have remembered at all, but for the fact that I reread the passage a week or so ago.

You have to read the rest of the chapter (and indeed book) to fully appreciate why it's so funny, but the scene in question had me in hysterics throughout - every one of the three times I've read it. In it, Dostoevsky just so hilariously nails everything endearing and humorous about the stock-character of the harmless, buffoonish sensualist.

For me it is both memorable and funny because he makes blunder after blunder about Orthodox history and practice.

Yes, the way he continues addressing the elder incorrectly "Dear Elder", "Great Elder", etc. was particularly funny.

My memory isn't quite up to scratch here or anywhere else

You're right! No new car for me, but I did get six books and a lovely, 22 year old nurse.
That sounds rather odd, I presume?

I'm watching Who Wants to be a Millionaire?

My favourite game-show presenter is Noel Edmonds

I'm over six feet tall.

I give it away by consistently leaving the lie till last.

I'm somewhat embarrassed to admit I was dancing to Styx, but at least it was the song "Babe". It's rather nice!

1 and 3 are true.

You're right.

I love both horses and dogs, but prefer dogs.
