obsessed, yes. i have six (in a small apartment). i've been to cat shows and used to want to breed them until i realized the non-neutered males spray and have to be kept outdoors, and sometimes there are things i would find impossible to deal with (birth defects, etc) ..
i love them. a lot of it is a sensory thing. they smell good, the fur feels nice, purring is the best sound in the world, it calms me when they pile up on top of me. but also i relate to their curiosity and random spazziness and the way they give in to every urge to nap in sunbeams. they're my best friends. i don't know how to explain any better. i don't dislike dogs (like i used to) but some of them smell terrible and they need too much attention generally. the dog breeds i like are the mellow almost catlike ones who sit around like living sculptures and don't bark (saw a miniature Borzoi some time ago .. lovely) .. hate dogs barking. hate it hate it.
That's cool that you've been to cat shows! Have you ever won?
I'm the same way. One of the things I love most about my cat is the way her fur feels and smells. I like to hold her close to my face. I just love their random spazziness. One of my teachers used to say that cats are psycho because they hear voices inside their heads and they obey them.
I do make eye contact with her, but I thought that was just because she has such beautiful eyes.
