From what I've heard (and I seriously hope this is no longer the case), that depends on who you are.

For my brother's and sister in-law's sake I hope that's no longer the case anymore either!

Thats all fine and dandy if you're willing to pay anywhere between $1500-3,500 for a studio apartment. That roughly the same as my parents monthly mortgage on a 5,000 square foot, 5 bedroom, 3 bath house on 4 acres of land. Want a house there? Be prepared to shell out well over a million for a crappy roach infested dump. Want a car? Forget that you're better off with a bike because thats the only way you'll get ANYWHERE on time.

I lived there for a short time with my cousin and I will NEVER do it again.

San Francisco is a GREAT place to visit and I highly recommend everyone visit it at least once in their life time, but living there? No thanks.

Luckily I don't have to worry about housing for a while. And I'll be using my parent's car in America.

My college is in Auburn. :)
And I'm going to Portland sometime this year hopefully.

Envious - I've always wanted to go to Powell's (bookstore), and I'd buy lunch for A2 of course...

What is A2?
I've been there several times as a child. It didn't seem to exciting. Maybe I'll appreciate it more since I'm older. :P

A2 = AnonymousAnonymous, he lives in Portland.

and you're right - it's not too exciting, I just love used/rare bookstores and Powell's is world-class...

Not to skive off their welfare system I hope? The Swedes (and in fact, all the peoples of the Nordic countries) have had a bellyful of their governments allowing non-productive immigrants to come to their countries to scrounge off their benefit system and are now voting for populist anti-immigration parties that will stop this happening.

I don't understand why people want to move here........everything is better in Europe. It just IS! Cars, laws, healthcare........all we do here is pump our selves full of plastic, strive for orange skin, stab people and get fat.

You can go to europe then. I stayin' here in Cananda. Where the only thing terrible is the winter and cold jokes that americans make against the country and stephen harper.

We have this in the UK too, and probably more than you do in Canada.

British law isn't any better than Canadian law - at least you still have your Common Law traditions. Ours are in the process of being usurped.

There are some better things about the UK than Canada - the alcohol laws aren't quite as restrictive over there. Yet. But Canada seems like a safer place to be.

Seriously MissConstrue, I was in San Francisco in July & froze my behind off! I met a young woman from Scotland who complained about it being bitter cold as well. It's also super expensive to live there.

LOL I recommend visiting. Then you're not committed. It's a great place to check out. Lots of cool stuff: shops, food, scenery, etc. But if you do go, bring clothes you can layer. You never know what the weather will be.

Me too! I only got as far as the southern border of Oregon. Never been to WA state, hope to get there someday.

WHAAAAAAAAT? Seriously? I always thought it was rather pleasant. I guess it just depends on your body. There is one woman at work who always sets the thermostat in the breakroom to 90 degrees when shes in there.......and its 95 degrees outside! I get hot real easy so The Bay was always very comfortable. I think the hottest it ever got when I was there was maybe 82? When that happened people there were acting like the sun was about to melt the earth.
