I said "No, but I'm interested in the fandom". Furries usually pick a specific animal to identify with, and I have an affinity with animals, just not a specific one.

I have two fursonas and a suit that isn't quite finished yet. I'm going to start working on finishing my first one when my brother gives me back the shaver(Mongolian Fur is really hard to shear well) and I'm also going to start on my Otter suit. Also, I definately need to get a nose and teeth set and to fix up that muzzle and those eyes. But yeah.

i like anthros. the term furry down at devaint art is almost taboo. so i refer to them as anthros.

i always find myself creating anthro forms of my characters, out of curiousity of how can interpet the character's features, fighting style, etc... and see what animal would best suit them overall. my interest started with sonic.

i also got love of robots from sonic games.

but some of my characters already have an animal form, or at least one that i remember, dagon he's a dragon, but more in the fantasy dragon way. but i have morphed a few characters down through the years.

i mostly don't talk about it mainly because of all the hate on anthros in general across the net. i don't want to be on the other end of the hate. i get enough crap being a xemnas fan.

I kind of wish that "no true scotsman" was enough to avoid association with the batsh*t furries. I photoshopped a pair of cat ears onto myself and posted it on FurAffinity, and this 25 year old man started to bug me via PM. He wanted me to photoshop fox ears and a tail onto himself, and he also asked me where I lived, my email, etc. I then told him to f**k off because he was creeping me out.

That's a pretty standard age in the fandom and it isn't necessarily a pedotastic age because a lot of my friends are 25 and older, but he shouldn't asked you. Some furries will do that. Hell, 60 to 70 percent of the fandom is made up of non-straight people of which group I am a part of being bisexual. My first and only boyfriend was a furry and while we had a really short relationship, we're still friends and I'm helping him with his fursuit as I finish my first one and transition into the second.

Sorry. Didn't mean to come off as if I assumed that was the only reason people like the idea of furries in general. I've just seen those particular people get made fun of just as much for reasons as completely ridiculous.

don't feel alone for several years i only knew furries as that porn crap. which is why i only use anthro, it's the same thing it's just the word furry has been beaten down a bit and is mostly used to ref the porn.

even on devaint art i good portion of the community started using anthro once furry got a bad rap. that was a few years back. all the artists drew the same pics they always had, but the two sides to the art were split between anthro and furry.

things have probably changed since then though. my anthro character is a cyborg fox.

Anthro is the term we use to describe our art.

I'm part of the "eh.... kinda" group. I don't have a suit, I don't have a "fursona" (if that's the accepted term?) but it's a mild interest of mine.

i'm techniclly leaving this site but. my love for art demands i reply to at least this post just to clearify if nothing else.

yeah anthro is use alot on devaint art, most anthro artists are sonic fans. or a good portion are. at some point though the term furry was villianized. to the point that if anyone mentioned the term they were labeled as porn artist with a sick fetish.

so from then on only the term anthro was used to refer to the art, characters, and the artist themself. i was an anthro artist for many years before i got up the skill to draw humans, after that i drew both untill i stopped drawing completely

anthros are still alive and well throughout my stories and other forms of art. even made two clay models of two i have.

A lot of furries are sonic fans or were sonic fans, but that's usually not how they get into it. That might seem true on dA, but Sonicfans are rarer than you think in the Furry Fandom.

I'm not a furry and I don't have a 'fursona.' However, when I was a very little kid I was around dogs and cats quite a bit and I ended up picking up a lot of their 'mannerisms' and thought processes. I sometimes snarl when frightened and I find that animal body language is 'cleaner,' that is, the animal means what it 'says' rather then bull-crapping around like people sometimes do. :D

i first ran into it on devaint art, and almost everyone i watched was a sonic fan, because i was into sonic at the time.

who i watch depends on what interest i am focusing on, if it's sonic then i watch only people who draw sonic, eventually i added final; fantasy 7 to the list, then kingdom hearts. now i watch who ever draws what grabs my attention. so i only knew a small portion of the group and i actually learned about it several years after joining.

so i don't know much beyond what i saw on devaint art and it is really as far as got in knowing about it. and once it was demonized i didn't want to know anything beyond that, because i felt it would disturb me to death.

i'm glad you clarified it for me, it's nice to know the truth about something if everyone else is spreading lies like that and trashing something that need not be trashed.

Yeah, we've become the standard internet punching bag thanks to the, lets say, more enthusiastic members of the fandom. People see one bad fursuit or one sex freak and then there's that ridiculous CSI episode(which is not spoken of) and all of a sudden we're labelled. It happens to every internet community but we seem to be hit the hardest.

yeah it's not fair when that happens, but you really can't stop it from happening. like people who draw anime are said to have no talent in art, and that is bs.

when it comes down to it anime is just Japanese style cartoon. but people give it a bad rap. same with anthros, it is a hobby per say an interest people have.

and when it comes down to it our minds are curious about a ton of stuff. like when i see a character with a helmet on it drives me crazy because i'm curious what he\she looks like without it.

and the way i see it if no one was creative we as a people wouldn't last long, and creativity is not just art.

anyway rant over, i get sick of all the senseless hate.

I am not myself a furry, but via my anime and manga related hobbies, I know several furries. /*Surprisingly*/, all of them are overall better people than those who subscribe the the mainstream of furry-bashing.

i hate the stereotypes that get fed around the net. i watched people on da for many reasons, and many different artists and there were good ones and bad. it didn't matter what they drew. and alot of the nicer ones left due to harassment of some kind. alot of artists who i admired for their skill are gone.

they were anthro artists, realism artists, writers, etc... they all were harassed till they left, and most of the time it was because of their art, that makes me sick.

there are others that should get some kind of backlash, and it's because they are jerks outright it has nothing to do with the art.
