I think this is interesting. It seems that we come from all religious backgrounds. Iwas raiseda Lutheran in the midwest US. It is like Catholicism without the pomp still lots of guilt and shame. I still go to church frequently even though I don't believe in God.

I'm a Buddhist and an agnostic (lean towards atheism).

I was raised Catholic, though you wouldn't be able to tell.

Look at all the godless heathens, brings a tear to my eye. May your children be born with beneficial mutations.

Yep :P

Give me any evil in the world, and I can point it towards pride.

You can point most things towards money, but some people do evil things without money in mind. If a little kid pushes another one down on a sidewalk, they aren't worried about money.... similarly, a lot of other crimes are done just to make oneself higher (pride) than another person. If there was no pride, there would be universal compromise. If there was no money, people still would fight and hurt each other for food/necessities and just to feel better about themselves.

Most sex crimes are committed out of lust, it has nothing to do with pride. In fact, most child molestors have a very low opinion of themselves. Then there's crimes that are done solely out of greed, and those have nothing to do with pride either.

Religion is always a nice way to justify any crimes. Most religions are so ambiguous on morals that you can pretty much do anything you want and you can just turn to your holy book to absolve you of any guilt you may feel. If even Jesus said he came to bring a sword (Gospel of Matthew 10:34), not peace, what's stopping a good Christian from doing the same?

To the guy who said atheism is a religion: is not collecting stamps a hobby? Atheism signifies lack of religion, to be specific the lack of a deity. If you want to group religion and atheism together, well now, that says a lot about your (lack of) faith, doesn't it...

I'm declared agnostic, but was raised and baptized Methodist. Also had a lot of exposure to the L.D.S. Church (Mormon). Nothing against any religion, and for those who aren't familiar with agnostic vs. atheist, I DO believe in some sort of supreme intelligence or "God". Just not willing to put full faith in anything that Mankind has interpreted as the Truth as of yet. I am not an atheist, as atheists believe there is NO God and that all religions are balderdash.

I selected 'other' cos there's no option for Agnostic. My family are a blend of Catholic and Protestant yet my general approach to life seems to uncannily tally up with Buddhism, so definitely 'other'

So they lust for aggressive sex. How does that contradict anything I said? If it wasn't at least partly about sex, they'd just beat their victims up.
