The reason for the NATO 5.56mm round was NOT to kill but to cause more serious casualties. It was meant to drain enemy resources.

Casualties use up battlefield resources much faster than dead people. Often you use soldiers to stretcher bear along with a medic, plus medivac, field hospital etc.

A dead soldier you literally just walk on and delay corpse recovery till post battle.

I did not know that. The Russians seemed to have learned in WWII to develop a battlefield weapon to completly obliterate the enemy. And the AK and the bullet seems to fit that mold.

I used to be obsessed with guns, used to buy different BB guns (Colt15,Desert eagle, Mini automatic machine gun) and pellet guns like the GAT gun.

I've been wondering what people around here thought about guns... I'm planning on buying my first handgun as soon as I turn 21 (3 months). At first I was going to buy a 1911 but due to the expense of getting a good one and this being my first time around I settled for a SIG-Sauer P220 in .45 ACP, the so called "thinking man's .45", we'll see...

Uncomfortable to shoot, no manual safety, liable to explode in your hands, not to mention soulless, and oh so ugly. Shall I go on?

I believe the old expression is kill a man, take away an enemy. Wound a man, take away an enemy and two of his friends. Something along those general lines anyway. I'm sure I murdered it as I haven't heard it in forever, but that's the idea.

I carry around a H&K USP .45 V1. I enjoy it.

I also agree glocks are severely overrated.

When I had a Glock it was the best weapon for me. But the HK was also good.

I know a guy who was there. He currently resides in the Portland area and used to work with Col. Hackworth. The test was named Upshot-Knothole and the cannon was a 280 mmcannon to be stationed along the Fulda Gap to be used when the Russians invaded West Germany. The name of the gun was Atomic Annie.

I like Russian rifles because of the high capacity magazines and its low maitenance. When you are firing them its like firing a cannon. It has that distinguishing sound when fired.
