My current car seems like me on the outside. It is the car everyone else but me equates me with. Someone even said it should be my dream car - I was insulted by that. It might have been me at one stage when I first started driving but not anymore.

My next car will seem like me on the inside. People will be puzzled when they see a mousy looking accountant get out of it. Friends and family will be shocked and express their disappointment at me wanting to own a car that doesn't fit their meek perception of me.

I only drove it with the coils. If he buys it back or finds another I'll urge him to let me adapt a Citroen hydropneumatic system to it! :nerdy:

ok, how well did it filter out road bumps with just the coils?

It was still pretty amazing. As long as one puts up with the ridiculous fuel consumption the (mis)adventures are endless. The black tie looks never get old in the city and it felt like an automatic bimmer even on rocky doubletrack. As much as I loathe automatics my hat's off to ZF.

I'll spring for one with the BMW diesel six as soon as they're legal stateside.

so I take it that it is the smoothest-riding vehicle you've driven? my dad had an old 300D that did the amazing floating trick over raised railroad tracks and speed bumps. it was almost like its tires "stepped" over the bumps.

Tricky question as I've actually had a number of cars that got close; IMO Nissan Xterras are actually not far behind Coventry trucks. Also, considering just how many awful roads they happily chewed up I'd call Saabs a close second. Volvo 240s are quite similar to Benz 300s, given that choice I'd still go with the 240 because I think they invented the "bank vault" road feel people buy Range Rovers for. I mention all these because Benz 600s have way too much chrome and not enough OM turbodiesel for my tastes.

I am glad it has the original higher-profile rubber, but I haven't a clue as to the make or model, what is it? do they permit loud mufflers over there?

Yes I too prefer the look of big tyres, I am not going racing in it so no need to feel the dreadful condition of Britain's roads with low profiles.
Its a Triumph Stag
I have fitted a Holley four pot carb and stainless free flow headers, I might fit slightly less restrictive silencers but I dont want it to loud, maybe something like the following.

I like the basso profundo mellow burble of the stock system, the open pipes had much more of a lower-midrangey "roar" to them. in any case, what a glorious sound which will be missed in the near future when gas will eventually become too dear to burn.

Aston Martin were so jealous of that sound that when James Bond drove a Triumph Stag in Diamonds are Forever, they insisted the sound be dubbed out, or so the story goes, you can hear James Bonds Stag V8 sound has been replaced by a straight four cylinder Triumph Herald in this clip:-

Gas is already too dear to burn hense I don't go out in it much, average is probably around 18mpg, best I have had is 23 on a fast motorway run.

if you put fatter pipes from the header output all the way back, would that give you two more miles per gallon?

Considering how jumpy that 3 litre sounds I'm not sure there's any means of adding MPG, save for running lean. My 2nd best bet would be an aftermarket O/D.

I'm a TR6 fan myself but you've got a beautiful roadster my friend.

Only the picture I posted is mine, the videos are somebody elses, but thanks.
I too would prefer a TR6, or even better a TR5 or TR250, but they are a lot of money.
