People with congestive heart failure are not supposed to eat foods high in sodium, specifically because of this problem. Anybody can pack on water weight eating a high-sodium diet, but folks with CHF are particularly at risk and the dangers are more severe.

Dietary choices have consequences. People with extensive health problems combined with poor executive function can very quickly get in a bad way. ASS-P's dietary choices were poorly considered, and I think stating the resultant weight gain is unrelated is a bit disingenuous. Ezra made more than one mention of the high sodium content, and for someone with ASS-P's particular health profile that one's a major red flag.

Agreed, his recent diet has likely made the problem significantly worse than it otherwise would be at the moment.. my point about diet was that it wasn't as if he's rapidly gained fat mass by overeating and under exercising. But, you & EzraS are right, a high sodium intake lately has likely amplified the fluid retention.

...I was given a new notice of my Medi-whatever being cut off and I'm supposed to appeal it.
This happened before and the appeal, in fact, was denied - But I wasn't thrown out of here. I don't know :? .

Well that's annoying. I'm sure it's standard operating procedure to cut people off after x # of days to save money & bed space. File the paperwork and appeal it. If your healthcare providers determine that you Need the services they're providing in order to heal, chances are good that you will get an approval for an extended stay. Fill out the paperwork ASAP and get the ball rolling. Good luck!

Perhaps all that indulging on burgers fries noodles ribs cheesecake and the like caused you to gain 10-15 lbs.

You probably need to be on and stay on a strict low fat low sodium diet of about 1500 calories a day for at least a year.

If you continue sneaking out and binging on high fat high sodium food, you will likely keep gaining both fat weight and water weight.

And if you keep breaking rehab, they will probably decide there's no point in keeping you there and cut you loose.

Ez, you are wrong. This is clearly weight gain due to edema fluid build up caused by his congestive heart failure. And I'm shocked the hospital released him in the state he is in.

High sodium consumption causes edema. In this case I believe high sodium consumption added to / aggravated the preexisting fluid build up from CHF.
