I havent read the entire thread, but im dissapointed to see mostly sci-fi responses.

What about purported REAL aliens, Pleiadians, Procyonians, Zeta Reticulans, Dracos etc...

I think ive heard Michael Tsarion say Grays are actually some sort of 'drones' created by a reptilian species. More often it seems people say their are humanoid race(s) thats survived genetic damage from nuclear wars etc.

Because the ones in science fiction are more realistic (well, except maybe the Klingons - a society that maintains a barbarian lifestyle is unlikely to cooperate well enough to build starships. One novel claimed that Klingons were originally a slave race of another starfaring species, and wound up killing their masters and seizing their technology, but that never became canon until it was used to explain away the Kazon in Star Trek: Voyager).

I mean, really - can you come up with any rational explanation why a purportedly intelligent alien species would spend the time, effort, and expense of crossing lightyears of space (sometimes hundreds of lightyears - the Pleiades cluster of stars, all less than 100 million years old, is around 440 lightyears away) to a planet orbiting a star that many of them would consider unsuitable for life (Procyon A, for example, is an F-class star, hotter than our Sun, while its binary companion, Procyon B, is a white dwarf) - and then spend their time on arrival playing with our wheat crops and sticking needles into peoples' brains (a maneuver unlikely to elicit any information whatsoever)?

I'm sorry, but I prefer my intelligent alien life forms to act in a fashion that could be described as, well, intelligent.

time, effort & expense? maybe they have more efficient means of transportation. Distance is relative. Motivation - mineral deposits? or something else which we dont know about.

And how would making crop circles and anally-probing random people get them any mineral deposits? Especially when it'd be so much easier, if you're in space already, to mine the asteroids? Get water from Saturn's rings? Scoop elements from the atmosphere of Jupiter?

No, I'd have to say that the reported behavior of these "aliens" fails the basic test of sentience - they don't make sense, on any level, even accounting for possible alien motivations.

The Borg (if they ever invaded earth, I'd so run to the next drone begging to be assimilated), the Vulcans, the Megarans, the people on the B-Arch

Wookie - Star Wars
Sanheili - Halo
Combine - Half-Life (okay, it's a union, not a particular species)
Head-Crab - Half-life
Vortigaunt - Half-life
Gonarch - Half-life
Vulcan - Star Trek
Drej - Titan A.E.

This list is hardly comprehensive. I could go on all day!
