I'm not only ok with quiet, aside from music and nature sounds, I'd be blissful if the human world was far more quiet. As a species, we do not step softly, do we?

Worst sound? I work in a building right next to a busy intersection. When there are cars coming to a stop and they have squeaky brakes, a piercing high pitched metal to metal screech, I have to instantly cover my ears or reach for my noise protectors on my desk. It's like a full body electric shock and as though my teeth are vibrating.

The building is also directly across from a fire station, so when the fire engine ladder trucks wind up and slowly....move through that intersection, I have to cover my ears.

Did you like going to zoos as a child?

I often get books (I have hundreds), or DVD box sets because I'm too inept to stream the films I want to watch. I think I have all the box sets I need now, though (about five). There will never be enough books. I remember my wind up, tin Jack in the Box which had a 1960s clown type of figure inside. lol. Sounds creepy but I liked it. I love music boxes and snow globes as well.

Istomin: I agree that sounds that are 'too quiet' are awful because I involuntarily strain to hear them. My dentist always has the news going quietly in the background and it drives me batty because it's at the exactly wrong volume with the dentistry tool sounds. Same with a quiet radio! arrggghhh!

My collectible toy was spinny pinwheels (whirlies?)

Hi Magna -- I hope you're surviving your weekend! I should post an excerpt from my primary journal about going to a zoo when I was seven. It's hilarious.

Do you know how to ski?

Cross country - yes.
Downhill-no
Snowshoeing is more my speed now.

Would you rather take a walk in subzero temperatures or extremely hot and humid?

Neither! But, if I really had to choose I'd say hot and humid. I have an abject phobia of hypothermia.
I can't imagine having the will to even TRY to survive freezing to death. I'd just roll in a ball and be gone.

Subzero. I can layer. I hate overly hot and humid.

Favorite breakfast beverage?

Milk in your tea?

A spot of milk on occasion, but generally not.

Toast or cereal?

39 degrees Fahrenheit and supposed to be sunny today. I like your taste in music, by the way.

Would you rather spend some free time sitting next to a river or a lake?

I like sitting on the shore of a huge lake like one of the Great Lakes. Otherwise, I like the sound of the moving water of a river.

Name a song you recall hearing a lot on the radio when you were in grade school.

Fifty Ways to Leave Your Lover (Simon)
Silly Love Songs (Wings)
Maggie May (Rod Stewart)
Blinded by the Light (Manfred Mann)
Blue Bayou (Orbison or Rondstadt)
