I really dig those songs about dances!

The Jerk, the Frug, the Swim......all those 60s dances---can't do most of them, though LOL

The Stroll looks cool. I've seen YouTube videos of it.

How about Woolly Bully? And 96 Tears....that type of stuff? What they call "protopunk" or "garage" nowadays, but was just called rock-n-roll in the 60s.

I have a video of my auntie doing the Mashed Potato in the early 1960s with her beehive hairdo.

The Stroll is my favourite! It's romantic and relaxed all in one.

I don't know that term protopunk, but yes, "Woolly Bully" is fun.

Do you ever hear music and feel like you are transcending time and space back to your memory of it?

Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels is though of as being an example of "protopunk."

You should listen to EARLY Bob Seger. Not the later Bob Seger of "Night Moves" (though that's okay, too). He did what is termed "protopunk."

Can you name one of his early songs for me, please? I'd love to hear one. I love Bob Seger!
I even had a Golden Retriever named Seger, because of him.

"East Side Story" is a song he did in 1966. Nothing like later Bob Seger. Pure garage rock!

His group was the Last Heard. Then he established the Bob Seger System.

Anybody else listen to the EARLY Bob Seger?

Or Kenny Rogers (the "Gambler" Kenny Rogers) doing a psychedelic song?

I loved the Seger song! He sounds so much like ..... someone?! .... I can't place who it is! It will come to me!

I haven't heard Kenny do psychedelia but he's very sentimental to me!

I danced with my father to this song, at my parents' 25th wedding anniversary party.

When he was in the First Edition, the First Edition had a massive hit in 1968 with "Just dropped in....to see what condition my condition was in." Pure psychedelia.

I was shocked that the lead singer was THE Kenny Rogers.

Yep. "Through the Years"---classic Kenny Rogers. The Kenny Rogers most people know.

OOPS, sorry, I thought I put that in the songs thread.

Well, there was a crazy strong flashback that I'd forgotten about. Wow. Intense.

Next question, because I'm a bit shellshocked by that song.

I listened to "Just Dropped in" in the 1960s. I never knew who the lead singer was.

I listened to classic Kenny Rogers, and thought he was just a country singer (one of the best of all time).

Then I discovered he was the lead singer who did "just Dropped in!"

It just shows the versatility of the man.

I'm hyperventilating a bit from the Kenny song that I'd forgotten about.

Keep posting more.

Do you have a favourite song of all time?

Some days, "Israelities" by Desmond Dekker and the Aces is my favorite song.

Other times, it's "Sincerely," by the Moonglows.

Other times, it's "Bette Davis Eyes" by Kim Carnes.

Hmmm.....not of all time. My favourite fluctuates all the time. I'm torn between two atm. "Schism - Tool" and "Solitairy Shell - Dream Theater"

Same q
